Hi sweetsound,
That could be tube noise you're hearing. Try replacing the tubes (or borrowing some) and see if the hiss will still be there. Just my two cents worth. :)

sound advise from sir BenC, does it only manifest on phono playback? if not check all your grounding bro.

Do you still hear it even when music is playing/silent passages of music?

Are you sure it's a hiss and not a hum?

Hiss generally comes from the tubes, while hum from a grounding fault.

I'am no expert but both of them sound great. The Lenco with Transfiguration cart has more detail than the Rega with Benz ACE cart. tnxs

How close are your ears to the speakers when you hear this?

A small amount of hiss is normal (though odd that it's only when the volume knob is at 10 o' clock -- perhaps you can have the potentiometer tracks cleaned and see if that helps, though it would be more of a crackle). Ideally it should be dead silent but that almost never happens.

Hi sweetesound,
Walang anuman sir! Just the (3) 12ax7's ... If you know which of the three is the input tube, you could try replacing that one first then listen. Hope this helps!

if you hear the hiss between cuts, when the needle is engaged onto the vinyl, or that you are playing with a not so clean or worn out vinyl, this should not casue you any alarm as this is normal.

Hiss and Hum sounds are different. Hum can be casued by improper grounding, loose contacts, motor/plinth/platter vibrations et al. BenC's suggestion is one solution you can work on. One remedy I normally do is to use jumper wires with alligator clips and terminate all vibrating/moving parts into one common ground (normally, the amp's chassis) It may be an eye sore but at least this will help you to find the source of the hum.

HTH.
