vintage ss gears

Just asking: what ss gears are worth owning, i.e. Sansui, Sherwood, marantz, etc.

personal opinion: as per owned and auditioned stuffs.

sansui... masarap ang tunog. airy. labas ang mids. tight bass. clean high.
basis: G-5500.

luxman.... same with sansui. more airy. medyo not a bassy as sansui. but cleaner highs than the sansui.
basis: C-120/m-120: L400

airy= example alpine car stereo and pioneer car stereo. mas airy un alpine.

marantz..... strong bass but a bit boomy for me. crisp high but a little bright for me.
basis: 2330 and the quad equivalent

pioneer..... medyo dark.
sx??? i have one.

sherwood... same with sansui and luxman but with less airy. good bass and highs.

my choice: luxmen :)
this is just my take. audition mo na lang. sometimes the looks are more emotional than the sound they create.

heard one mac lately.... hindi ko impress... maybe not match lang saka because of the name mataas acquisition cost considering that the other brands listed above are sub 10k lang minsan less than 5k pa nga.

tube... i agree like the sansui au-111... but a little expensive lang .....

word of advice.... try to find out the history of the gear you are interested... in my search.... dami ko naencounter palit ang power stage... so chopsuey na tunog....

if you can check the capacitors inside also... because some are leaking already.

meron nagadvice sa akin which i want to share to you.... even if you are not going to use it or naka stand by lang.... power it on regularly... no need to play it.... para daw d magleak? un caps.... maybe the experts can explain better.... medyo mahina tayo dyan......

Tend to agree with Halls. Once I got to try a Luxman and got hooked instantly. Been collecting lux gears ever since. A friend just cautioned me about the torroidal ones since its kinda hard to find a replacement once it gets damaged. Well as in any vintage gear there's always a risk. But Lux goes on the top of my list.

Next is Sansui. I've fallen in love with the Sansui Au-111 sound. Very warm and lush, extended vocals and highs. Sarap pampatulog. Got a spare one, pm me if you guys are interested. Same quality with my SS Sansui AU-7500. Got lots of power and more to spare. Love the black aluminum faceplate.

Marantz is next. Got the 9090db and the model fifteen. Both are workhorse machines. Warm sounding for me. Just the way I like it.

Just sharing my preferences.

hmmm makisali nga dito....

For me :

Thanks for all the inputs. I have been seeing a good number of posting lately. And they all look good. But I do not have any idea on how they sound. Sometimes looks can be deceiving. Sometimes, I even see them in Garage Sales, but do not know their real value. This triggered my question.
