I forget about our very own Bobby Enriquez i've got most of his records on GNP Crescendo and one from Columbia's Prestige section titled "Wild Piano" this one was
produced by the legendary Bob Thiele recorded digitally but live to 2 track.
His rendition of classical gas is a bomb amazing dynamics if you could get the album
this is highly recommended compared to the TBM's Misty it seems the guy just learned
piano.

since i'm an analogue synthesizer enthusiast, i collect early electronic music which used analogue synthesizers like the legendary Moog synth. it's really hard to look for this kind of music here in Pinas, but i think i'm still lucky because most of my purchase are the one's that i have been looking for.

my cup of tea: bossa, latin, exotica, space age bachelor pad, black exploitation soundtracks, movie themes, etc.... o sige lahat na nga! :P

please please please let me get what i want!

Setup4, I complement your contirbution. I wish this would open eyes of analog buffs who somehow need guidance in their quest. Guys, listed are some bombs which will make your turntable sing! As for me:

1) BILL EVANS- I may be the biggest fan. I have almost all of his LPs, most of them original, Riverside, Verve, previously unreleased recordings etc

2) BOB DYLAN- My hero when I was in high school. I have all of his original pressings....but not the desired "Freewheelin' Bob Dylan"

3) JOHNCOLTRANE- I'm working on him. Some Prestige, Blue Note, Impulse, Atlantic

4) MILES DAVIS- Likewise, I have some Prestige, Original Columbia's

5) SARAH VAUGHAN- I've got the Emarcy, Mercury, Columbia, (all in mono)some Roulette, Pablo

6) ELLA FITZGERALD - Almost all the Verves in original press

7) LAURA NYRO - All. (Hypetriode, what do you think?)

8) BEATLES - I only keep the original UK pressing. Had to buy them one by one all over again.

The above mentioned LPs in my collectiion are all in MINT, almost flawless condition. I can say that. Don't really have too many in my collection but they are worth the trouble. Spent oodles of time hunting down my humble treasures. (V_D, did I comply? Hope this will merit)

What's with the Japanese stuff that make then sound typically good?

I don't necessarily mean XRCD or XRCD2 but even Jap CD's sound glorious.

What gives?

It's the JVC plant who's vinyl pressing is so legendary that they produced the most quite
vinyl. They perfected the art but when they closed they completely destroyed the plant.
Most of the Mofi are pressed there.

russ,

this is in response to your query on japanese pressings..indeed they are clean sounding...must also be the quality of their vinyl and production process...

Don't be confused. Are you referring to Jap pressings of foreign artists or Jap aritsts?
As Ambel mentioned a great deal of Mofis were preseed by the JVC plant. Aside from the labels one could put the vinyl against the light and notice a "see through" vinyl which often refers to "virgin vinyl". Mofis, any JVC-Japan label LP possess that.

However, known Jap labels such as Toshiba, Eastwind, RCA were known to record direct to disc and have great sound and quiet surfaces. TBM is another audiophile lable that produced great sound via "closed miking". They have been reissued in XRCD but if one wanted to experience the natural recorded sound you would to listen to the original recordings because the XRCD has been re-mastered and grossly enhanced.

Jap pressings of US/UK rock groups in the 70's are sought after in the U.S. by certain collectors due to the novelty, nicer cover, lots of posters etc. They command a much higher price tag than their US counterparts
