Wood also shrinks if exposed to pictures of old naked ladies.

Can anyone give advice on how to avoid this?

You mean shrunk?

If you don't have access to kiln for drying, then you have to store the narra flitches for about a year after the tree is cut (maybe longer if the flitches are thick). You need to arrange the flitches so that air can circulate freely, by stacking them with spacers (enhance air circulation), check out how lumber yard stack their lumber. This will dry it enough so that it will no longer shrink.

Huge gaps on solid wood flooring is due to using the wood "green", as it dries, wood shrink.

the wood was air dried for a long time and kiln dried over 2 weeks...like some things in life,
some stuff do shrink with age. so long as they remain functional, i don't mind ;)

I have a teak wood chairs and sofa from Bali. I was told this can stand the weather ( rain?) I have not put it outside. Is this true? Of course, I'll set aside the cushion when it rains.

Hi Gino,

If the finish is "exterior" grade, then your teak will survive the weather.

Though it will be nice if it will be partly shaded during the day, last longer. Teak was used on ship decks and aircraft carrier decks in the 40's.
