Hey Val, try them all out, the D3A, Aikido and that latest really cool one with al the flexibility built in. Good way to kill a weekend!

Oh baby yeah. That's the beauty of analog Dana so many possibilities in achieving the right sound :) But I always go by the principle that its not really all about the equipment you use, but on how you use them ;)

Could not agree more with these observations about analogue and audio in general. The phono amp with properly executed RIAA is a critical link in the chain. The design, choice of quality components and great layout in implementation makes all the difference between low level components and the truly excellent. Besides, the cost is not that much in comparison to expensive name brands, where you are paying for marketing and overhead. All these units here are great, and not all of them are mine, unfortunately Resources are finite, but I think wisely spent in this case. You do ge what you pay for in most cases.

I think Mr. Rivo is guilty overkill. Overkill of beauty, that is.

Dana, I don't see how with a great circuit, premium parts (Vitamin Q even!) and great workmanship, this preamp will place second to the best preamps around.

All is perfectly done except (picky, picky me), the two PS electrolytics simply protruding out of the chassis through roughly cut holes. I think this is just a premature picture and that Rene will soon be embellishing them with collars.

Congratulations to the maker and the owner!

Mnady,

I agree that all of these units exude quality and attention to detail, and should sound superb. The protruding Mundorfs in two of these units are as they are I think, unless mink collars would add something? Vitamin Qs? All I see are Solen Teflon, TFTs, the green ones and Mundorf. What do you see?

@Dana, the two capacitors connected (?) to 220K resistors each and immediately next to polystyrene caps look like Vitamin Qs or of the same type anyway.

Actually these are better than Vitamin Q's, they're Westcaps! Clearer and more dynamic than, but with that oilcap-bloom of the Spragues! ;)

Thanks for the nice words guys!

Senor Mandy, yes it would look nicer with collars but mind you, it doesnt actually look as bad as it looks in the pics :)

Thanks Alex! :)

Tube set-up is 12AX7-12AT7-12AX7-12AT7. The main phono stage is PCB'ed; Janus tube regulated supply is P2P.
