hypertriode wrote:So far i was bowled over by the wonderful sound of the Shure V-15 Type III on a Denon DP-6000 connected to a vintage Sony preamp's phono stage and all SET amplication/horn speaker system when we visited squirrelnutzipper's place. The sound was just very natural, liquid and smooth sounding; playing was Eva Cassidy's Songbird LP :inlove:
BTW, the stylus was just a generic replacement; an original (or one of the better replacement) stylus would be another story :P
I had kept two V15 III's and ordered styli for these (thanks SNZ!); they would be one of my "retirement" cartridges for sure! 8)
I'm sure many of you out there are using/rediscovering (some might even won't replace theirs with an MC) those magical MM carts. MC here regretted selling his Grace F9! :(
What's yours? :)

Agree with Rene and SNZ on the wonderfull sound of the Shure V15 type lll ;) I have it installed on a Sansui Sr 212 TT into a Sansui 9090db, and LSA 2s. It surely outperforms the V15 Pickering installed on the Thorens TD 121 TT. Hopefully, once I acquire the necessary hardware or headshell, these carts will be interchanged. Its quite easy to do an A-B on this set up. True, its quite difficult and costly to find an original V15 Stylus. Is there really a retirement cartridge in audio ;)
The Denon 103 and 103rs MCs are alternating on my tube set up.

Congratz, idol TAS !
a Grace F9e ive been watching on evilbay finished at US$ 400 sarado.

for me, i know i can't run with the big boys oin their uber expensive MC carts so i'm going the MM collection route. so far, i've made a couple of fantastic discoveries in 2 unheralded MM carts that were nothing short of a revelation to me. these carts have even been imbued me with so much bragadoccio that i've half-jokingly told a good friend that i'd wager my whole system against his Transfiguration.

SHURE's

V15 Type III with original VN35E stylus (I now wonder and very much curious as to how far the Jico SAS sounds like)
M91ED with Kyowa replacement stylus

all sounded very very good! :inlove:
IGD almost unnoticeable
Soundstage/ channel separation is impressive esp. the V15 Type III

Using Technics 1200Mk2 and its stock arm and headshell for the V15 though..
