VD, they look great! Did you try experimenting on different finishes before you decided to go on with its final polished look?
I wonder how it would look like with a wax-polished finish. Were they KILN-DRIED?

My uncle used, more or less, the same sizes in his house. It was initialy good but expanded tremendously and left a lot of huge gaps!
Can anyone give advice on how to avoid this?

A solution I have been contemplating on is to leave a 20mm shadow gap along the perimeter wall. The gap can either be left open or covered
with skirting. In theory, the gap will allow for the expansion during the hot summer time of the year.

Lastly, may we know how much were the planks and your source?

the wood was kiln-dried for 3 weeks so was very dry when installed. anyway in time i'd expect some very slight movement and that's fine. will have it resurfaced and retouched by then.

yes, the finish is on the shiny side. installer didn't apply polyurethane but something else that makes it easy to be re-sanded if needed. i want something that's easy to clean but at the same time "sound good". we'll see...

i think i'll have a portion done with wax finish or flatter finish and i'll decide it that's better.

thanks for the comments.

You mean shrunk?

If you don't have access to kiln for drying, then you have to store the narra flitches for about a year after the tree is cut (maybe longer if the flitches are thick). You need to arrange the flitches so that air can circulate freely, by stacking them with spacers (enhance air circulation), check out how lumber yard stack their lumber. This will dry it enough so that it will no longer shrink.

Huge gaps on solid wood flooring is due to using the wood "green", as it dries, wood shrink.
