My next phone is most likely a Motorola...

I was about to search something on youtube and this was on the front page recommendations, I clicked it, then I forgot what I was going to search in the first place. :D

Song for Mama

Postby jadis » Tue Mar 01, 2011 9:24 pm

I never thought I would be able to find a youtube video of this song taught to us by our Taiwanese teachers in grade school. Amazingly, I typed the rough equivalent of the phrase in English, translated from my knowledge of the first few lines of the Chinese song. The title literally means, 'In this world, the only good person is mama'. The most recent article of Val/audiostar inspired me to do this search, which I kept forgetting to do every so often, thinking it was a long shot, but finally I found it. Dedicated to ALL mothers, whether they inspired us in music or any other good things, they truly deserve to be called 'our beloved'.

Basically, (translated to the best that I can) the song says that, 'In this world, only a mother is good. That a child with a mother is so blessed and fortunate. Without a mother, everything is so hard and pitiful. A child without a mother is like a single blade of grass. If we part with our mothers, luck and happiness cannot be found'.

It's funny that one of those who commented on youtube said that when he was small his dad would sing him this song, only, his dad substituted the word 'papa' in place of 'mama'. Dads are great too, they deserve a similar song along these lines as well. At any rate, this was a song taught to us then, and that was that. :)

Back to regular programing...

The first time I saw Chiqui Pineda sang this song on TV, I was glued for the duration of the song. Lovely voice, lovely lyrics, lovely song. What more can one ask for. I had to buy a CD selection of various artists just for this version alone as I learned there had been a remake of this song by Aiza and Gary. May plaka kaya nito? :)

While we're at it, re one of the all-time KTV foreign hits, I stumbled into a nice version, complete with sax, keyboard, piano, and drums to make it into a jazzy tune. The singer is a Miss Co something, apparently from Taiwan.

And another, from Chengdu, China this time, Miss Chris Lee Yu Chun, a winner of the China 'Super Girl' contest, quite like the 'Idol' series of talent contest around the world. The live performance begins around the 1:11 mark, with Kenny G on the sax.

Miss Li doing a Bryan Adams... :o :)

And finally, the 'Super Girl' from Chengdu does "LATIN". Move over, Misago San and the Tokyo Cuban Boys, this girl can belt it out too. Here she is doing 'Historia de Un Amor', with the 'Shanghai Nicaraguan Dancers'.

World Peace

Postby jadis » Thu Mar 03, 2011 2:32 pm

Here is a 'classic' skit, courtesy of an episode of Bubble Gang paying tribute to one of the great comedians in Philippine TV, from the original 'Super-Laff In' cast in the 70s - the late Ramon Zamora, aka Mr. Sprakenhyt. Towards the end, he is 'honored' by no less than curvy stars Ruffa Mae Quinto and Ara Mina, :o both of whom have somehow acquired the 'Sprakenhyt Accent'.
