I believe she is one of the first artists to usher in 'K-POP' into these shores - MINA:

Not that I'm a war freak or anything, but this scene of Daryl Dawkins and Maurice Lucas 'squaring off' like prized pugs got me so shell shocked in my youth that I couldn't erase it from my mind ever since. I saw this virtually as it happened during that year, the 1977 Finals that eventually created 'Blazermania' in the NBA. Dawkins was Chocolate Thunder, the guy who shattered the glass so many times with his monster dunks, and to see him going berserk left an indelible imprint in my memory. And boy, look the the WWE type 'takedown' of poor Blazer forward Bobby Gross, who actually had the big heart to taunt Dawkins back which resulted in a 'left hook' by the Chocolate Thunder. All this in a basketball game. :D

Just saw a yahoo headline that read:

'Taiwanese Susan Boyle's' amazing feat

WATTA BOY!!!!!!!!!

TAIWANESE IDOL!!! I haven't been there in ages, things have really changed there, may boy na Whitney pa. :D :D

On the ELLEN SHOW (following the footsteps of Charise)

Ellen after the boy answers her in Mandarin: "Yeah....yeah...." :D :D The boy can't speak English but can sing Whitney. :D Now, I'll really be bowled over if Charise sings Lionel Richie. :D :D

This sent in by a cousin from Toronto. :)

It completed the mission in about 49 seconds. Just in time for the theme song to end.

PBA

Postby jadis » Mon Aug 16, 2010 9:29 pm

The 'early' PBA, with stars like Jawo, Atoy, Kiko, Mon, Abet, Beng, Bogs, and boy, it could take all day to name them all. Crispa vs. Toyota is like Celtics vs. Lakers. Too bad, the 'electricity' in the Coliseum simply ain't there any more today. The good old days....

From Yahoo News today: Armless Pianist Liu Wei Defies Odds On 'China's Got Talent'

"Heartening tales of overcoming adversity are typical fodder on "Got Talent" and other reality shows, but the shocking saga of "China's Got Talent" contestant Liu Wei makes this season's batch of "America's Got Talent" sob stories look like the pampered brats on VH1's "You're Cut Off." And this is a true sob story--seriously, if you watch the video below and don't get at least a little bit misty-eyed, you clearly have no soul. Watch Liu's perfect performance of "Mariage D'amour" below, and make sure to have some tissues nearby" :

The Great Wall of China (萬里長城)

Found some old old pics I took while visiting China in 1983 (scanned through a first gen scanner):

Image

As it goes upwards, climbing from tower to tower is not as easy as it looks. And depending on which side of the wall you fall down to, you might be in 'barbarian' territory.

27 years and 30 pounds ago..... And stepping on a few thousand years of engineering marvel...there is some sense of gratification in being there.

The grandfather of computers - the humble 'adding mashin'.

Image

After all, the initial intention of the early computers was to add, subtract, or 'compute'. And before that was the Casio pocket calculator, and of course the great grand daddy of them all - the abacus. Found this in a forlorn corner in my father-in-law's house and I would love to have yanked the 'computing handle' down and up to produced the patented 'ching-ching' sound, but alas, wala nang langis, naipit.

The ever beauteous Nicole Kidman singing a duet with Robbie Williams. I didn't realize singing makes her even lovelier. :inlove:

It's a good thing someone posted this song lest this cut in my LP gets worn out by constant playing. Doris Day is like the girl-next-door compared to Julie London who is like the girl-inside-your room. One of the sweetest songs that I have heard from a female vocalist.

At the top of my 3 favorite albums of all-time - the US Valiant Stereo pressing of The Cascades' 'Rhythm of the Rain' - an album that brings back my 'happy days' during grade school. :)

Good thing some folks posted their songs for an instant jukebox effect.

This one must be directly taped from an analog source, may tick and pops pa on the initial seconds.

Below, when they performed in Manila a few years ago. I didn't realize that they still sang very very well after all these years; though I think the only original guy left is lead singer John Gummoe, who amazingly, has the same birthday as myself. :o
