thanks for the replies.......will hear what happened soon as i get back my st 70.......but in case i need to change my speaker
any suggestion with the speaker that range from 50 to 80k.........

L S 3 / 5 a

I'd look into something in the vicinity of 87db 8ohms upwards. Prime candidates include VSA VR-1 and its cousin, the LSA standmount, Hyperions, Rega, Triangle, Dali. I'd stay away from maggies, dynes and B&W's for now. Even sonus fabers may give the ST-70 a bit of a tough time...

Come to the showroom jicksilly. i've got a Dyna PAS-3/Stereo 70 set up driving a pair of Rogers LS3/5A's! :)

You may also consider this speaker. Now at Audiogon.
Reference 3A Dulcet. Easy to drive (only one capacitor for the tweeter and midbass connected directly to amp) and a lot of good reviews. I had heard this dulcet with an Almarro 18watter integrated and it was one of the most satisfying set-up i had heard.
Currently i am using the older Reference 3A, the MM gen 2.

jicksilly, i have a ST70 restored and hotrodded by rene. i bought groove tube el34M tubes which are modernly built as close as possible to the mullard xf2. RCA 7199 input tubes (although Dynaco written on the tubes) and national 5AR4 rectifier. my pre-amp is a tono violin with GE 6sn7 tubes. i have this combo driving a pair of dynaudio audience 72 floor standers (87db, 4ohms). near field listening. i'm very satisfied with this combination :D at one time i was able to audition a pair of VSA VR-1 bookshelf speakers. sounded really awesome! excellent imaging top to bottom. i decided on the dynes as i wanted more weight to the sound and got a good price for the pair slightly used :) i still wonder about the VR-1s though.... :^)
