Papers 'Thy Neighbor' Gave Me

Papers 'Thy Neighbor' Gave Me

I believe one does not really become a neighbor of 'thy neighbor' until he 'furnishes' you a bunch of well-xeroxed audio white papers that he diligently compiled through the decades. :D In terms of owning vintage NOS 'audio anythings', the guy has my vote for being the top dog in this category. His passion can be shown in the white papers he collects and he also painstakingly highlights the important phrases in each document.

Samples of the neighborly white papers: :D

Doug Sax interview in 1980 wherein he talks about the Sheffield S9:

Sid Smith modification of the Marantz Model 7 with new Telefunken ECC803s:

Interview of Saul Marantz:

Sax and Mayorga - Sheffield's Dynamic Duo:

Allegro Sound 'Tube Challenge'

IAR report on Power Amps:

Opus One report on ARCs and Maggies:

BTW, these are just cover pages, and the whole articles were given to me in bundles so much so that I had to buy some new folders and binders from NBS. :D All I can say is, 'what a neighbor'. :D

That shouldn't be a problem, Jen. I'll xerox it for you.

Found a few concert tickets, circa 1990:

The 'odd' thing about the Carnegie Hall ticket is that it's blank. :o Maybe it was printed on invisible ink.(upon close exam the ink really did fade) I do recall the performance though, a solo piano concert by Alicia de Laroccha. It was quite a stunning experience for me, as I was seated in the extreme left side of what was probably the 3rd tier balcony, but the sound of the piano was like it was almost in front of me. :o

This small stuff has no audio significance really, but it stays in my listening room. Given to me by commander, I really did not know what to make out of it. Maybe she was trying to say that I had been doing a great job 'acting' contented with my audio gears. Napansin yata niya ang 'maliit na kahoy na may karayom'... :D

I was fortunate enough to attend this fabulous performance with my wife back in 1994, as the Schonbrunn Theatre was just beside our hotel (walking distance). Good thing I still preserved the program booket for some good memories. In a word, WOW! My best musical experience, ever. And to think the locals told me the best place to attend a concert was in the Opera House in downtown Vienna, where the big wigs perform. It was closed though during the time of our visit, which is a good thing. I imagine after watching there, I could have undergone a 1 year audio sabbatical to recondition my ears. :D

Philip, joke lang ito ha...

pero na-imagine ko na bago tuluyang inaward sa iyo yan, may caveat na sinabi si kumander: "in the event that the winner cannot perform his duties as World's Best Husband, the runner-up will..."
