update from Stanford...for Payatas

Postby mela » Sat Jan 19, 2008 11:39 am

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to write a post to ask for your help for a cause my friends and I are supporting. My dad (Vintage Dog) suggested I write a post here in case there may be folks willing to help out.

My friends and I started this org called greenITed. The organization aims to improve the country's scientific community, particularly in IT, by extending and improving the education of the less fortunate by bridging the digital divide and sparking their interest in the sciences.

Our initial project is a tie up with Puso ng Ama Foundation, which aims to support and promote sustainable child and youth development work in Payatas. We will provide computer laboratory equipment and software, local area and Internet connectivity, and provide training materials to the community. It is our hope that these computers can serve both as a tool to supplement their existing education and a medium to learn new skills that will eventually uplift them from their existing conditions.

One of our initiatives to support the project is by providing basic literacy and Internet training to parents. The proceeds from this project will fund the expenses needed for Payatas including, but not limited to, computer parts, Internet connectivity, electricity, and other miscellaneous fees.

HELP NEEDED:
We welcome donations for the following:
- useable computers
- useable computer parts
- financial donations to fund expenses
- software / software licenses
These items will go towards the computer laboratory that will be set up in the Payatas community Youth Center.

We are also looking for participants who would like to avail of our computer literacy and Internet training to parents. So if you know anyone (parents, wives, friends) who would be interested, please feel free to drop me a line.

CONTACT:
If you have any questions or clarifications, or if you would like to help out, please feel free to write a response to this post or send me a private message.

If necessary, you can also invite is to provide a short presentation to your organization/company necessary.

If you would like to help out in other methods not listed above, or have other ideas for potential tie-ups, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me to discuss.

I have a couple of old PC's sans monitors/keyboards that I'm sure are still useable with a little work from a PC tweaker (otherwise, you can cannibalize the parts). One's a 350 MHz Pentium 2 and the other is a 1000 MHz Athlon. Where can I bring them? :)

Francis.

I also have parts left from my PII PC. Will check it out tonight.

Anyway, why not do another round of LP sale for charity, like we did before?

I have some 1.8GHz Celeron PCs at work that are ready to be disposed, I might be able to gather parts for one working PC, where should I have it delivered?

Hi everyone,

wow! I'm overwhelmed with the responses. We are definitely welcoming all usable computer parts; we'll just mix and match the parts around to form working PCs. A huge thanks too to those people who will be able to donate complete PCs!

I'm just gathering details from my orgmate regarding details on where the stuff can be dropped off. I'll get in touch again soon. Thank you so much! :)

Hi all,

please deliver the stuff to:

ADDRESS:
39/F Summit One Tower
530 Shaw Boulevard
Mandaluyong City

You can get in touch with Tito Popoy Diokno (0915-8523592) so he can meet you when you're dropping off the items. Do let me know in case you have any problems delivering the items / if you will be unable to send them to the address above.

Hi myaudio,

what would the books be about? :)

it's a dream come true for my daugther (and our family)...

to use her talent and education to help uplift the condition of the educational system of the country...
in her own words: "..It is our hope that these computers can serve both as a tool to supplement their existing education and a medium to learn new skills that will eventually uplift them from their existing conditions. "

am sure the 36 computers funded by Stanford University for Payatas will be put to good use...

the kids of Payatas...

you'ld think they'd rather be out on the streets...begging, playing, selling, etc..

but my daugther has a different vision and plan for them...

with God's grace and a little help from friends, am sure she will succeed...
