FREE vintage console amp to those who can restore them...

Postby vintage_dog » Wed Sep 19, 2007 4:18 pm

to DIYers only (no audio traders please)

i have over a dozen console amps. got them years ago when i was trying out restoring vintage amps. most don't have tubes. most are working and sounding great.

if anyone is interested in personally restoring them for himself and taking good care of them, i have an amp or two i can give for free.

these are magnavox, rca, zenith brands mostly. pushpull EL84s or 6V6

only condition is you can not sell them since you are getting them for free or as a gift from me. also, you must personally be the one to restore them and must post (preferably with pics) the restoration work including the final product. hopefully, i can listen to them too :-)

Hi VD,

Am very much interested in restoring one of these console tube amps.

Can you please post the models so I can start searching for the schematic and see how hard the work would be.

Regards.

I wish i had my parents console, piano black finish, lots of tubes and magic eye's, a massive piece of furniture that fascinated me as i was not allowed to touch it.
Until they ripped everything out and turned it into a bar cabinet........

 looks like i got myself in trouble.

i didn't realize there are quite a few folks interested in restoring vintage amps. i have more folks wanting one than what i can spare.

anyway, i'll try to go over the attic boxes and look for them.

- i recall having a tube receiver which i may let go
- a tube tuner too
- here's a sample of a console single-ended amp (magnavox) i have. i got this pic from ebay:

- here's another example of a restored 6V6 console amp:

- another one:

loi,

when your brother picks-up the vintage Wharfedales you bought recently from me, i'll have a vintage console single ended amp (magnavox) to go with them.

they should make the speakers sing :-)

congrats!

Hello Francis

I will help ease your problem.
Take me off the list, i misunderstood console, i am looking for a big old "radiogram" console. It's another side of my nostalgia thing.
already working on an old Sansui....

Cheers, Paul
