Hi,

May I know where you got it in HKG. Was this at Sun Wah Hifi at Prince Edward? Are the LS3/5a speakers really that good? I was informed, prices start at HKD6500. What sort of amp are you using on these? Sonny Tuazon of the Home theater advised me to audition Harbeth LS3s instead of floorstanders.

thanks,

skee

I bought it fr my friend in HK but not in SUNWAH HIFI.I have own more than 10 diff brand of LS3/5a since 1995,the best of 11ohm is KEF Black piano and harbeth Gold LE, for 15ohm I like Chatwell the most.LS3/5a is good for sweet sound, specialy vocal or violin, but not for the classical, orchestra and rock.it's all depend of what kind music your listen.it's better use tube amp for LS3/5a.yes, in HK they are selling LS3/5a HK6000 up.

Sound is amazing. I havent tried an AB comparison with an original though. Looks like it also has different characteristics based on what i gather from other people's experience with the origs. Speaker placement may be one because they sound better 2 feet from the wall

Yes because it was an unlicensed copy using KEF components but with a different cabinet. I understand from the unofficial LS3/5a site that The Radio People made these from spare parts of the Rogers 15 ohm version after they ceased to be distributors. Not much else is known about it. Havent read of actual side by side comparisons on sound quality and performance

I dont know much about technical components of the crossovers though. I'll try to post pics. Maybe you can help identify them

The tweeters dont seem to have had covers too

Interesting clone ala LS3/5A. Is it called an LS3...? The LS 3/5A specifies birch wood for its cabs. I wonder what they used with these? THe birch wood is part of the design requirement. Lacquered or esoteric wood such as rosewood and others shown above can add a little heaviness to the LS3/5A that can improve on sound as reported. The original BBC pair (KW?) that was not included coz they sounded better in the KK shootout was reported to have heavier cabinets. THe lacquered Rogers ltd. ed. finished third with an interesting .5 difference to the 15 ohm Chartwell scoring 243 versus the Chartwell's 243.5. KK actually called it a tie between these two! This should make the Chartwell guy posting a lot happier with his Chartwell LS. I recall that Chartwell was also bought by Swisstone who also bought Rogers. So at a certain time Chartwell and Rogers brands had the same maker. Interesting.

It's just labeled The Radio People Ltd at the back and is badged as Spectrum at the front. No model references indicated. I have no idea what type of wood it's made of.

Sorry, I am not well versed with the technical specs of the LS3/5a  Looks like it but I dont know if it comes close to sounding like it :? One thing I know is I am very happy with it :)
