JackD201,

If I may ask, what speaker system(s) and line stage(s) or preamp(s) will the M1.2 be used with by the new owner?

Hi Mullard,

Speakers are VSA VR-9 SEs, Cables may be KSR, Digital is likely to be Emmlabs.

Mr.9 wants to choose preamps carefully. The Lamm pre is out unfortunately because it doesn't have a remote. :(

As of now the candidates are:

VTL 7.5 Mk.2
the upcoming BAT VK-52 SE or REX
ARC Reference 3
the upcoming Levinson No. ? Reference

I'd love to have Mr.9s dillema

VD,

Kayang kaya ng Digital Mod natin iyan. Para naman marinig natin.

JackD201 and Keith,

I've been wondering why this firm charges more for less watts. Has Vladimir enlightened you on how he prices his goods? It's not definitely on a per watt basis like other manufacturers.

Hi Mullard88,

The prices are largely dependent on the type of output transformers used. I'm sure our amp building DIY community can totally relate and attest to this.

Mainly the OPTs for the PP ML-1.1 and the SET ML2.1 are progressively more difficult to produce and are also made in smaller quantities. Being custom builds along with the very expensive resin immersion technique employed, these are made in very small quantities hence economies of scale help very little.

If one were to looke at a picture of the OPTs (See Mark Mickelson's enjoythemusic review of the M1.2 Reference where there is a picture of the amp with the bottom plate removed) all one would find is a black box instead of the usual exposed Toroid or EI Core OPT. The Trannies are actually sealed in these boxes and they are suspended in the said resin. In other words the trannies are completely free from contact from external vibrations and the micro vibrations and RFI/EMF that the trannies themselves produce are absorbed and dissipated by the resin hence isolating the other components of the amp from them resulting in one of the lowest noise floors around.

This is one of Lamm's patents and is a major contributor to the Lamm range's ability to retain the most subtle harmonic textures regardless of level.

These trannies have been in use from the very beginning and your M1.1s use the hybrid versions as well.

:D

This is the case of quality over quantity.
