another type of wood that has a great potential is the Mopone wood

Mopane wood: Musical performances
Well-known clarinets makers describe its sound performances as early starter and of sweeter tonality, typical to the clarinets made by Schreiber, the German leader in musical instruments.
The tone is as rich as the one of African Blackwood, as powerful, and a little bit warmer. It resembles the tone of Cocus wood that became commercially extinct.

Mopane wood: Botanical name
colophospermum mopane, family Leguminosae / Caesalpinoideae

Mopane wood: Distribution
Malawi , Zambia, Zimbabwe, Northern Province of South Africa. It grows up to 30 meters and 90 cm in diameter in the more humid regions and half of it in dry regions.

Wow Chester, I am impressed by your knowledge of wood! The varieties and characteristics are so overwhelming!
I also never realized that there is such great interest in our group about wood for possible audiophile application.

Actually I am doing a "trial and error" method of finding the "right" type of wood for the Analog front end. It is shaping up to be an unending search. Who knows, the differences in sound between wood types may not be that great. Who knows, maybe the major differences lies in the basic nature of the materials as in, vegetable/animal/mineral? It is driving me nuts, right now I am making a Denon casing out of animal product...Carabao horn! I like the way it feels; tough, non-resonant, made of fused fibers.

So, I will have done vegetable (wood) and animal (carabao horn). Now if only someone will supply me with Jade, Ruby or Emerald....

Seriously, if someone can get me exotic wood in thin strips (about 1mm), that will allow me to make tonearms much easier.

Mandy, I have been trying to source veneers locally, I can't find any. Anyway, I will try contact DOST, they might have a lathe than can produce 1mm veneer.

If not, veneers are readily available in the US, maybe we can ask some US based members to get you some.

HOLY BATMAN!

I think I stirred up a hornet's nest. Between Alex' and pigdog, I might have to cobble continuously for the next 12 months! Thanks guys, I might have to invest in some new equipment to prevent cobblers burn out.

Anybody into CNC machining? Is there an outfit I can just sent the prototype to so they can "clone" it using various materials? Will it be expensive? TIA.

look on the bright side mandy, you may have stumbled into something great! now would be a good time to work on these projects as there are potentials, imagine the possibility of marketing these items or even making some money selling the rights for the invention :)

I'll wait for it to be fully broken in before I compare. :)

Good looking piece of work Jon! Keep churning out gems from the Agner Labs.

Based on Amandarae's, yours and a large number of wood-bodied Denon converts, I think I better get off my fat a** and do the same on my Denon 103.

I'll mount it though on Carabao horn. Just to be different ;) ;) '

Who knows, it might turn out to be a lucky choice.

Sir,
How many hours do you have on the 103r prior to removal of body?
TIA
