The Audiophiles Creed
1.) You may borrow my Cash..You may borrow my Dog..You may borrow
my Wife..but you may not borrow my vinyls.
2.) Before you buy a turntable reflect on the following things..Is it
expensive..Is it user friendly..Does it have a belt drive?..Will it need
an MC or MM cartridge (how much)..Is it future proof?..Does it need
azimuth adjustment?..Does it come with a tonearm (If not what will I
use and for how much?..Is it made in U.K. and highly rated?..Can I
take it with me in bed or on some far away beach to listen to?..Can I
buy the vinyl pressings cheap?Does wow and flutter matter?..Are the
ticks and pops together with the surface noise tolerable? Will I need a
headamp?..Is there life after the records have deteriorated?..And of
course will I need a record cleaner?
3.) Hear and Learn is the beginning of wisdom. Audition gear as much as
you can before anything else try to get the truth on what it has to offer.
4.) When in a shootout or audition keep still and quiet as you can. Listen
to what other people have to say. Absorb the good and remove the
bad in their observations. You will come out of it a better man.
5.) Refrain from patronizing or being biased towards a particular gear
unless you can be well prepared to defend your convictions. The worst
faith is a Dead one. Tradition is the root of all confusion. Give yourself
a square deal more so on new technologies in audio.
6.) Knowing enough is better than knowing too much! Keep your gun
powder dry till you see the white in their eyes.Let the guru's have
their say but save the last dance for yourself at the end of the day.
7.) Never over extend yourself in your quest for hi fidelity.. however
never sell yourself short either. Learn to grab opportunities when
made available to you.
8.) One man's lost can be another man's gain be on the lookout for guys
who are always upgrading chances are you can buy good sensible
gear from them at much lower prices.
9.) Honesty is the best policy..never lie to your better half how much it
cost you to buy your gear. She is not as dumb as you think..she just
loves you more.
10.) Beware the Ide's of March..often in this hobby the closer the friend
you have the higher risk you run in getting yourself into the never
ending upgrade craze. In essence be happy with what you have
regardless of what other's say or think about your gear for in the still
of the night it is only you and the music together.
