Either that, or

When your wife complains about the cost of your gear, show her the pics of sinar's TWO systems. ;)

1. In Audio it is just a state of mind
2 Sometimes It defines your success
3. It is also an escape from reality , to grasp light moments.
4. It is something to talk about , like religion those who would not understand it is not baptise
5. It is only for those who journeyed without fear {from wife }{wiped out Bank Account}
6. to enhanced yur sagging personality and forgot your vanishing hair.
7. to add to the topic that you will discuss in your marketing and networking scheme
8. it is also a form of bonding
9. music adds life , audio odds the wife
10. every human being is an audiophile , it connect into the senses ,good sound and music is easily appreciated.

I think there is one major commandment that has been missed:

Thou shall not reveal to the spouse or significant other of an audiophile what the cost of his gear is!

SERIOUSLY!!!

Image The Audiophiles Creed

1.) You may borrow my Cash..You may borrow my Dog..You may borrow
my Wife..but you may not borrow my vinyls.

2.) Before you buy a turntable reflect on the following things..Is it
expensive..Is it user friendly..Does it have a belt drive?..Will it need
an MC or MM cartridge (how much)..Is it future proof?..Does it need
azimuth adjustment?..Does it come with a tonearm (If not what will I
use and for how much?..Is it made in U.K. and highly rated?..Can I
take it with me in bed or on some far away beach to listen to?..Can I
buy the vinyl pressings cheap?Does wow and flutter matter?..Are the
ticks and pops together with the surface noise tolerable? Will I need a
headamp?..Is there life after the records have deteriorated?..And of
course will I need a record cleaner?

3.) Hear and Learn is the beginning of wisdom. Audition gear as much as
you can before anything else try to get the truth on what it has to offer.

4.) When in a shootout or audition keep still and quiet as you can. Listen
to what other people have to say. Absorb the good and remove the
bad in their observations. You will come out of it a better man.

5.) Refrain from patronizing or being biased towards a particular gear
unless you can be well prepared to defend your convictions. The worst
faith is a Dead one. Tradition is the root of all confusion. Give yourself
a square deal more so on new technologies in audio.

6.) Knowing enough is better than knowing too much! Keep your gun
powder dry till you see the white in their eyes.Let the guru's have
their say but save the last dance for yourself at the end of the day.

7.) Never over extend yourself in your quest for hi fidelity.. however
never sell yourself short either. Learn to grab opportunities when
made available to you.

8.) One man's lost can be another man's gain be on the lookout for guys
who are always upgrading chances are you can buy good sensible
gear from them at much lower prices.

9.) Honesty is the best policy..never lie to your better half how much it
cost you to buy your gear. She is not as dumb as you think..she just
loves you more.

10.) Beware the Ide's of March..often in this hobby the closer the friend
you have the higher risk you run in getting yourself into the never
ending upgrade craze. In essence be happy with what you have
regardless of what other's say or think about your gear for in the still
of the night it is only you and the music together.

No Furry Cats or furry animals, OR CHILDREN BELOW 11 YEARS OLD No EXCEPTION!

NO food or drink on the table (with the audio gears)

ALWAYS indicate whether is 110v or 220v

No Smoking around one's audio gears, tobaccos, grass, peyote, rabbit pellet and whatnots (do not attempt to operate any audio gears under the influence of any mind altering substance, these are fine audio gears, not CARS!)

Treat your audio gears as personal properties akin to your private parts! meaning no touching by strangers! that includes, housemaides/houseboys, bodyguards, butler or valet
Always respect your host's gears during auditioning, THEN critique humanely

whilst bringing home a new or recently acquired audio toy, a gentle white lie to your wife/parents/siblings/roommates is NOT considered SINFul :P

Audio performance is subjective, except for some known lemons

stereo 5.1 Good, 2 Channels Better!

Spending good money on Audio Toys is better than the wifey/girlfriend/boyfriend spending big bucks on the latest Louis Vuitton handbag!

addendum:
LAVA LAMPS are an essential and tasteful decorative items in the listening room 8)

anyone caught not returning vinyls and cd's must be Hanged Drwn and Quartered!

Here's my installment of 8 Commandments:

1. There is no perfect audio chain--from recording to playback--and that each stage in the chain is as unique as the individuals involved in the process.

2. REALITY is the REFERENCE and not our neighbors set-up or the next brand or model up the ladder. The closer the sound of an equipment is to reality, the better.

3. Be realistic--You can never have it all. Enjoy what you have because there will always be something better out there in the market. Make your choices and priorities.

4. When buying a piece of equipment, check what parts are used, workmanship, etc. to give you an indication of how much an equipment "really" cost. Make sure that you're not just paying for the name, industry jargon, inefficient production practices, marketing expense, etc.

5. The performance of a musical piece is more important than the other aspects involved in the material. I would rather listen to a poorly recorded but emotionally gripping material of historical signifcance than an excellently recorded material of mediocre performance.

6. Keep an open mind. Veer away from endless debates on tubes, ss, vynils, cds, musical genres, artists, etc. because (a.)everyone is entitled to their own opinion (b.))they have their own merits, (c.)everyone will claim to be superior (d.)no one wants to be on the losing end.

7. Replacing parts in your gear is a guarantee that it will make it sound different but not necessarily better.

8. Listen within normal volume levels. Keep an SPL meter handy.

re; 10 commandments?

Postby MONREQ » Mon Feb 18, 2008 5:16 pm

1. Don't let specification deceive you..listen with clean ears.

2. Be contented on what you have and don't dream beyond your capabilities.

3. Lower your pride or accept, if you see other gear better than yours.

4. Don't easily trust other opinions..develop your own instinct in music.

5. Our sound system is not a god...don't replace Yahuah our almighty one from it.

6. Develop proper discernment and always ask for a home demo with your stuff.

7. Let your family members enjoy listening to music with you in order to build up better harmonious relationship -- to teach them the principle of good quality music.

8. Always remember nothing is permanent in this world..don't be angry if your kids accidentally destroy your system.

9. Don't trust people who ask too much in selling audio products.

10. Take care of your ears and clean them properly

1) listen to as many systems and system combinations as possible
2) audition only in your own room, using your own system, your own source materials.
3) trust your own set of ears...if its getting too late to decide, a 2nd opinion wont hurt.
4) ask opinions, inputs, feedbacks from experts or the more experienced.
5) respect another person's ideas and impressions
6) provide objective impressions and inputs to other people looking up to you as a mentor.
7) enjoy the hobby, learn from it, gain maturity, gain friends, gain TRUST.
