I understand more mass as a result of larger footprint of the plinth to acomodate the longer 12 inch arm.

SM E 312 does not use ABEC 7 bearings. The V does ...so I guess the V-12 does too......

Those rubbers still seem suspect to me as before - the kind of weather we have adds additional strain to those elastic bands that they do not last long and causes instability. Perhaps SME had improved on these materials, too? I'd have thought designs like this had already been abandoned for their dependability issues, and then it is resurrected
