Ako lang ba? O baka gusto nyo ring try.

What's your best x-over, speakers, amps combo for bi, tri or even quad amp system?

Pag walang sumunod dito ako lang talaga sira ulo

Mine:
x-over - dbx 260
amps (per channel) - 1x Cayin 800MK mono, 2x Cayin SET 9084D
speakers (per channel) - 2x 15"JBL D-140, 1x Altec 290, 1x JBL 075, 1x G1 Aurum Cantus ribbon tweater.

What's yours?

Sir Val, samahan na nga kita, para hindi ka lonely :)

My HT system is bi-amped. I have 2 Nakamichi 5.1 amps powering
1. a pair of Wharfedale Anniversary diamonds (bi-wired) as center channel.
2. a pair of Swans Dulcet for FR and FL
3. a pair of Monsoon FPF-1000 flat panel speakers for RR and RL

I have a pair of Muse Model 100s (stereo amp) that I alternate with my Audio Sierra Denali monoblocks to power the Jamo R909.

I also use a Music Reference RM-200 with a pair of Odyssey Audio Monoblocks and a ??crossover to power my Lowther DX3 with Oris Horns and a pair of passive 10" subs.

I have not tried tri-amping, but I still have two pairs of monoblocks from Arcane Audio and Audio Innovations, that can be used should I find the courage to piece together separate drivers like your setup. :D :D

P.S. My simple setup uses a Bow Technologies Wazoo integrated, a pink triangle CDP and a pair Swans M1 monitors with partner speaker stands.

hi buds!
for 3 occassions, i did multi-amping because i actually started along that line:

1st: my very first "hi-end" setup was a BRIDGED Musical Fidelity Typhoon Amp+Pre - from the same line as the classic A1 - they powered my Definitive Technology BP-10 with such finesse that i thought "that was it"... but not quite... something had to give...

2nd: my next was VERTICAL BI-AMPING using Forte Audio 55 and 50, driving my DefTech BP-10... i did not worry about cross-overs because i just used what's available - the internal/built-ins...

3rd: my final try was another Musical Fidelity pedigree - 2 sets of MF X-A200, still driving my DefTech BP-10: this combo consists 4 amps - an overkill for the BP-10, but nice anyway... like having 4 depth charges in my room :P

I still like doing multi-amp if the opportunity presents itself. doing an active system seems very intriguing but of course requires quite an investment. i believe that we can only reap the benefit of a multi-amp system IF the x-overs are correct; and the only way to have this is to go ACTIVE.

When i finally go for a full DENSEN SYSTEM, then, i will or MIGHT go ACTIVE, but definitely multi-amped.

I don't think this is crazy; i think this is "cool" (even for tubed systems).

One audiophile said: "This is not crazy! Crazy is when you buy a new car and put in 100-grand for the engine and additional grand for the 'what-nots' - that's crazy!"

.e.

The problem with having a bi or tri-amp system is how to match the level of the amps driving the speaker system as well as the selection of crossover points. Without specialized equipment (RTA, SPL meter), it would be a trial and error just to adjust such levels.

Amps as well as drivers like to be band limited therefore, I welcome multi-amping if you have access to such equipment and know how to use them.

Using waterfalls and FFTs is always recommended to get the system as flat as possible at the start however final tuning by ear is always the last step by FOH engineers. That's why the good ones get paid more. This is even more true of home systems as some people do prefer to have some dips, humps or even knees and shelving. The good thing about real time analysis is that after tuning by ear you'll actually see what your preferences are and this makes the process both enlightening and more importantly REPEATABLE. ;)
