STRAIGHT FROM INTERCONNECTS TO SPEAKER CABLES/WIRES

Postby ESaudio » Tue Jun 10, 2008 7:05 pm

There are various brands of choices (Kimber, MIT, Audioquest, Transparent, IXOS, Ecosse, etc.) with complete line-up of audio accessories from interconnects to speaker cables. For connection and wiring purposes, we can either go straight with one brand from interconnect to speaker cable or we either go for matching from one brand to another.

In my case, straight from CD player to preamp to amp, am using this unbranded silver wire for interconnect and speaker connections.

FLD's recommended Silver Audio SB-4 and Analysis Plus Oval 12 gave me years of happiness. Sadly, they were sold as a set with my PV-11, Pass Aleph, and Signums.

They are still making beautiful music at a friend's living room.

I like my music to be detailed but leaning towards the warm side. Thus I use the following:

For speaker wires and ICs, everything uses Lab47 OTA Cable and matching plastic connectors. Fun to assemble, by the way.

Power Cords is the "TUNAMI" by Oyaide for both source and amp.

P-079 and C-079 Power Plugs/IEC and connectors

SWO-GX ULTIMO Power Receptacles

Yes, I do beleive power cables, plugs and receptacles affect the character of the sound.

because of the color violet?   actually, violet is my most hated color in the color wheel.

why xlo? because it just brings out what's really there in my system. it's very neutral, imho. i get open highs, not muted or tizzing, right size and full body mid, and fast tight bass as what it should be.

i don't like mids that when you listen to a vocalist, the size of the singer lips is as big as his/her head. i used to have this sound when i was using vdh and transparent. i want the lips of the singer to have the right body (thickness) and be in the right proportion to the size of his/her lips when i visualize the soundstage.

For my demo purposes at the store:
Speaker cables - either the Van Den Hul The Wind or Chord Company Classic Silver.
Preamp to power amp IC - an old favorite; the Audioquest Lapis.
CD player to preamp IC - cheapo XLO Pro 150.
Analog IC - another cheap but very musical Ultralink Matrix.
