Accentus A101 & Lamm Ref 1.2 - best sounding amp hooked into this great speaker. I've listened to many amps paired with this speaker in my system and at the demo system of the dealer.

2. Lamm M1.1 driving Quad 63

I agree Mullard I thought I'd heard the limits of LS3/5as already. I was wrong.

VSA VR-9 SE and Lamm M2.2

VSA VR-5s and Unifield 3s and Lamm ML1.1

I have to lower the tone and cost of this thread.....a 3 watt Heathkit driving a Goodmans 201 / Goodmans Trebax in a mono OB. Sheer musicality for around $200

- nestorovic labs monoblocks and infinity irs, virtual reality.
- classe 10 and dynaudio audience 42, dynamic, yet laid back.
- manley snappers and dynaudio focus 140, transparent, and open.

Listened over the weekend and I believe there is real synergy between the Lamm 1.2 amps and the Yamaha NS 1 speakers. I tried three different front ends, two analogue and one digital, and in every case, the sound was to my liking.

So far 3 years has gone by and the Lamm M2.2 has a special synergy w/ the Harbeth SHL5s.
Latest discovery: Wilson Sophia 3 w/ Luxman 505u Integrated amp
Harbeth Compact 7es3 w/ Luxman 505u (demoed last Hi Fi Show 2010)

modded LSA1 + modded B&K EX-442 power amp + ecc88 aikido pre

KEF Q90 fs + same power amp + ecc82/ecc81 aikido

Currently the combinations I like are:

Charge coupled 250ti with a pair (running mono) of mc-2125 for the low end, a pair of fully recapped Eico HF-50 for the top.

40.1 monitor with an MV-52(tube rolled to satisfaction) for nearfield listening.

For the budget minded:

B&W DM220 (very inexpensive in used marketplaces) mates well with a plethora of Yamaha amplifiers and receivers.

JBL 4408 (another inexpensive used item to look for) good for 20 to 45 watts class PP tube, also mates well with 60 watts and up SS amplifier or receiver.

I'm currently swooning to the Unifield 3s being driven by the Kronzilla DX II. Lovely texture and hints of an octal's fulsome tone.

It's in the league of the Unifield 3s driven by Lamm ML1.1s. This combo gives the best of peanut tube intimacy and filigree by contrast.

Looks like the Unifield 3s are really most comfortable in the 50 to 100 watt range.
