Jack,

That model is the Jadis JPS MKII. Dual chassis, separate power supply that uses EL84 and EF86 in the PS and 3pcs 12AX7s and 1 pc 12AU7. I have heard Jadis pre-amps mated with Krell power amps, with Rowland Research, with ARCs, and even CJ and they all match pretty well. And, I should say, the Jadis pre-amps are also tube brand dependent, they can sound fast, detailed and revealing with things like Teles, Siemens, and EI, and warm and lush on Mullards and Amperex's.

VD looking forward to the new 26 pre's match ups.

Mullard88 is still away, Jack; which is why we haven't visited the lair...He was away, here quickly, and away again. I think next month he'll be happy to share with us 'ALL THAT MATCHES' ....

My own experience was with Jadis JPL line stage (single chassis version of the JPS MKII w/o the power supply). I have mated this with CJ MV125 amp, Jadis JA200 monos, and now the ARC VS110 amp. All worked well and has its own pros and cons. But all livable. With the CJ, super 'colored' mids, as in caramel indeed. The vocals have so much juice oozing out I felt I needed a cup to fill the overflowing juice. :D With the Jadis monos, it's lean and green, fit to the finish. Not so colored but refined sound. With the ARC's, less refinement but neutral mids and controlled bass. Now I begin to wonder why I never itch to change my JPL? It's not a bad pre-amp really, and it's been good to me.

Where's Hyperion? He's my pusher for my current FT Audio passive pre + CJ Premier 11a. The PV-11 worked well, too.

s design that will be for later this year and hopefully it will match with the 45 SET that i am embarking on

VTL 6.5 preamp and VTL MB 185 MKII. It's like having the mellow sound of tubes with the slam and quickness of SS amp.

Lamm + Lamm

I've tried every preamp and amp combination except the $140,000 ML3 (but I've heard this too)

From tender to violent, soaring to subterranean. Sweet but not thick. Warm but not slow. The Tubes vs. Solid State debate is rendered moot and academic. They never sound like they're trying to straddle some fine line or deal with any compromises because they make none. Downside is that they require quite an investment yet aren't very pretty. The preamps look like lab equipment and have no remote and the hybrid Amps are solid black boulders and the tube amps retro sleds. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder however and one thing for sure is the looks won't become dated or laos over time. I have nicknamed them "Cylons" after the single Red LEDs that go back and forth when you've had too much to drink

Mullard88 who pushed me in this direction summed it up best. "They are both Yin and Yang."

BAT VK-31SE and Lamm M2.2

More colorful and airy, psychedelic even, but lost some of the grounded-ness of upright bass and drums. Everything seemed to be floating. Nice for chill out tracks.

Several preamps have gone in and out of music room: AR-SP16, CJ-PV7, AMX-DIY - but none seem to have matched with the multi-amp system I was building - a tri-amp config, using SET monoblocks.

Only two were able to do the job well: Cayin SC-SLS and Ambel's Isabel.

These two were able to bring out transparency, details and soundstge to my system. I switch between them to conserve on tube life.

Tono Violin 6sn7 and Dynaco ST35 el84 :)

Also using an upgraded CJ PV-5 with a good match to the FF amps:

HK Citation II
Dynaco MK IV Monos
Fisher SA300
Eico HF60 Monos

It is always safe to combine same brands preamp + amp. At least gain and impedance mismatches are usually avoided except when combining same brand amplification that are generations apart (definitely not a good idea!).

These combos work for me:

FT Audio LW-1 (passive) + CJ Premier 11a
CJ Premier 14 + CJ Premier 11a
Consonance Reference 1.1 + CJ Premier 11a

in the order that i had them:

MF X-P100 + MF-X-A200 - probably the best i had driving my Maggies then; stayed with me the longest.

ARC SP16 + Primare A32
SF SFL-2 + Primare A32

SF SFL-2 + SF Power 2 - i mean, what can i say? hindi mahiyain.

SF SFL-2 + Densen B-300 - i thought this was a glitch but what the heck - the combo sounds wonderful - fast & precise, warm & airy!

.e.
