soon...

what to do if you have zero post and just want to enjoy lurking?

simple. if you have 0 post, just make your first post on this thread (on any one of these):
- who you are, or
- your current gear, or
- music you like, or
- just say "Hi" :D

simple as that.

PURGING MEMBERLIST WITH NO POSTS

Postby ESaudio » Fri Sep 08, 2006 2:06 pm

Sir VD, i just read your post with a warning that members with no posts shall be purged from the list.

With all due respect, this may not be a good idea. On the contrary, it may be construed as discriminatory and unfriendly. The mere existence of this site or forum is an invitation to all out there who are not into audio to lurk and surf and hope that someday he or she may develop that interest in audio. I am one of them who after a long period of lurking has been exposed to tube audio because of this forum.

We should not deny that member to lurk in the forum just because he has no posts. It's rather ironic to do such a thing when there are members na wala'ng ginagawa except nagpaparami lang ng posts.

Maybe, the most reasonable thing to do would be to deactivate his membership if such member(s) has not log-in for say a minimum period of three (3) or six (6) months whether he has posts or none. This is the method being adopted in other forums or sites.

Thanks and GOD BLESS.

Hi VD, I'm not sure this is a good idea. Why not just delete the inactive accounts instead of all members with no posts. I don't really see anything bad with lurkers who read through our forum messages for informational purpose. I myself am a "lurker" in other forums wherein I've never posted a single message. However, I do log in from to time to check out information and the experience has served me well. While I agree that you get a lot more by participating in discussions but not all of us may feel so inclined for whatever reason (nahihiya, walang time, a privacy freak - wants to remain completely anonymous, etc.)

Instead of making posting mandatory, can you perhaps make it a requirement for new members to provide info of their system, music preference, and reason for joining when they first sign up?

thanks for the inputs. we'll look into the deactivation option as we get into a new bb and get some technical help. unfortunately, that feature in not supported by the current bb freeware...

there are also forums that require members to have an intro post. i think it is not such a big effort on the part of member to post a one-liner on audio or himself if he's a regular lurker. wouldn't it also be nice to know who our new members are? last night i purged 50 zero-posters who have links on porn, gambling and drugs.

let's see how this goes...

thanks again.

the current bb however has not been programmed to make that a requirements upon first sign-up...perhaps in our next bb.

so, a workaround is a post by the newbie introducing themselves...

I agree with VD that those registered with NO posts should be deleted. I don't know if any of you ever counted how many of us have 0 posts? Well, I did. Last May I counted almost 1900 with 0 posts. How many have multiple accounts? Anyway those regular lurkers who never posted can always re-register. I would rather have 300 strong rather 3000 with only 300 active members. 8)

I'd agree with ihatejazz. Minsan we brag about we 3,000 members... eh 10% lang nun yung lurker + active. Kita ko naman pag nag login eh, di mo naman makikita yung ibang posts if you don't login. And everyday I see yung currently logged in- they don't represent 3,000 members. So I'd say remove inactive accounts. But you define the parameters, whether 0 posts or has not logged in in 6 months, etc.

It took me quite some time to post in wiredstate after registering kasi nahihiya pa. Normally kasi kapag newbie wala pa masyadong gears and nagbabasa-basa lang muna kung ano maganda then ipon-ipon. Kapag nakapag-setup na dun nagkakaroon ng lakas ng loob.

Agree with ESAudio that inactive accounts after 3 to 6months to be deleted.

Also, a lot of newbies (like myself) have questions that are in the archives or can be searched. Since this board has been around for a few years, a lot of info has already been discussed.

You often see answers to posts like "that topic has been discussed...". So posting for info or advice may be inappropriate at times.

I don't know if the number of "members" affects bandwidth, or capacity, or whatever nerdy / techy stuff you call it..... If it will have a problem with the forum's access speed, or memory or whatever, then by all means, sibakin na ang mga 0 post "members".

BUT, if the number of "members" does not affect the forum, then let them be. Its the internet, they have the right to lurk, wala lang bastusan or gaguhan.  I agree, instant tanggal dapat yung mga ewan na yan posting those crazy links, and selling those crazy items/services. :x

I agree, that lurkers may at first feel hesitant in posting about anything audio when he/she has no audio stuff yet. :( Its just normal, but through time, he/she will get some knowledge to start with the hobby. 8) Para namang di tayo nagsimula sa pagiging newbie.

What's wrong with 3000 members with only 300 strong :?: Eh kung ang bansa nga natin eh 5% rich and 95% massa eh.  Who knows, number 301 may well be a big spender whom distributors can milk in the future.

Let the lurkers stay. Again, i say this if it won't affect speed, space or whatever techy stuff you call it.
