Hi-Fi Show rm443: Video Clip - HARANA/SETUP/TONO System

Postby setup2 » Sun Oct 30, 2011 11:10 am

The JE Labs Simple 45 was developed by JE- setup! to entice people to try the DIY route... simple circuit and minimal parts than most common amp designs.... For more info about it, here is the link: JEL Simple 45

But it seems many got stuck with it as they were satisfied in what they are hearing.

One such owner, The Boss has been using it for ages.... Then, he felt again the sudden urge to upgrade... but what else can you do to such a simple design...

Add some complications... Think his love for watches has gone over to audio :D

So we embarked on this DIY, hmmm DIFAF is a better term, project... A not so simple 45...

Some complications... he wanted monoblocks but he did not want to create space in his rack, the boss said, it must be placed on one shelf. So it became a single chassis monoblock configuration....
Image

Layout by the Boss... And another complication, the Boss wanted a rotary swich... mounted at the rear but controlled in front:

Proudly Philippine made power transformer by Edrel:

The final cut.. pure silver wires in all the signal paths... The Boss bought so much silver wire so decided to use it also for the ground  :

Warning: High Voltage!!!

Listening test...

The copper chassis and wood case was made by Harana's Joey Abad Santos - joe3rp... Special thanks for bringing it to my place for wiring... The main drawback, it is quite heavy, but Joey carried it in with ease  8) ... Then the Boss picked it up... he wanted me to help carry it to his car... but I told him Joey carried it in by himself... Thus, he did not anymore ask me to help :D

The Boss promised me some healthcare for injuries I sustained while making the amp...

Thanks also to setup1, for some of the parts and valuable help in the making of the amp...

A Harana/Setup/Tono collaboration... Thanks to the tonoman for the wine and inspiration during the brainstorming...

We hope to see you all at the show

I have to say I'm impress by the tone. I love the 45 for its 3 dimensional like presentation but this baby has balls too. I'd say that it might make some sub woofer systems blush. Galing talaga. Slept at 2am na last night listening to black eye peas and maroon 5 w/ Cristina aguilera. Konti dafos and steely Dan Lps too. Many thanks to the collaboration that put this together. I'm already interviewing some nurses to take care of setup2s affliction. I hope 2 nurses together can solve his problem. :tmi:
