hi egay i find the designs of certina quite nice particularly DS PODIUM Automatic...
tissot has a more of sporty look to their designs, some of their designs are too radical for my taste, at least the one's that i saw in their store in PODIUM... but then that's just me...
happy hunting

check this out... a good read...

"Forget fancy ties and cufflinks; these days, the accessory de rigueur is a knock-out watch.

The best present my boyfriend ever received was the big, fat TAG Heuer Carrera he received for his 30th birthday. Well, it was a toss-up, he tells me, between that and the BMX bike he received for his seventh birthday and the Lego police-station set he unwrapped for the Christmas of '83.

But the point is, like a lot of men, he loves that watch. Not because he has the time literally within arm's reach whenever he needs it, but because he likes the weight and shine of the chunky Carrera.

But my boyfriend is not alone. Thumb your way through any men's magazine these days and you can expect to be bombarded with glossy advertisements for luxury men's watches, from Tiger Woods spruiking the TAG Link to John Travolta sporting the Brietling Navitimer.

In a recent issue of Britain's Esquire magazine, an ad for the new Seiko Kinetic Perpetual was tagged: "It's your watch that says most about who you are."

It is a statement that Albert Bensoussan, the Paris-based director of Louis Vuitton watches and jewellery, agrees with wholeheartedly.

"The watch really is the only real way for a man to say something about himself, to really express himself," Bensoussan tells me on a visit to Melbourne last week.

"Ladies, you are luckier, because you can be a little bit more adventurous in fashion. But for men, fashion is extremely standardised. If you look around you, most men are wearing a blue, grey or black suit and there are very few ways to make a statement about who you are and what kind of image you want to project for yourself ... The watch allows you to do that."

In recent years, the classic gent's watch - often flat-faced and finished with an 18ct gold bracelet - although still highly collectable, especially if emblazoned with a Rolex crown, has been usurped by strapping timepieces.

These days the hottest men's watches are bold badges of masculinity. While oversized, square-faced versions, such as Louis Vuitton's new Speedy automatic, are gaining popularity, the sexiest can be found in the weighty round-faced chronographs - all manly and mechanical.

Current favourites come with an analog - rather than digital - display, two or three dials with a fixed or rotating bezel and tacheometer and a band fashioned from shiny stainless steel or black leather.

The sexiest are defined by a trademark chunky case that often sits a good half an inch above the wrist. And it seems the bigger the watch, these days, the better."

I wonder what that says about a man?

1 Certina DS Podium Valjoux, $1475
2 OMEGA Co-Axial Rattrapante, $14,500
3 Longines Evidenza chronograph, $3500
4 TAG Heuer SLR Chronograph, $5250
5 Louis Vuitton Speedy Smart Grey, $5400
6 Rado Sintra chronograph, $4325
7 Dior Chiffre Rouge A05 by Hedi Slimane, $4750
8 OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean chronograph, $7300

Egay,

I'm not so sure if they've increased the price since October last year but this unit goes for 37,900 at MyWatch in Gateway. You might be able to get it cheaper in other stores.

Hey Killer mike,

I have a collection of around 15 vintage seiko watches from the 60s and 70s.
Ur watch is a killer!!!! very nice!.

Most people don't know that in the late 60s and early 70s, there was a competition between seiko and rolex for the most accurate timekeeping. These were the golden years of seiko and timepieces from this era have become collectors items.

Even if it was proven that rolex was more accurate, the mere fact that they were arguing is good enough for seiko fans...after all, the price difference between brands was enough to ensure extremely good value for money.

Nice watch!

Sir egay, just trust your instinct. You know yourself better than anybody. If you're the outdoor type of person, chrono or divers, if not go for the conservative. Or something in between, like zetroce's recommendation.....Oris.... formal - casual - sporty. Just stay in your budget, or else you will just confuse yourself. Ang daming poging yoyo 100K pataas. BTW, i'm using Oris, Swiss Army divers and a Rado Purple Horse (all automatic). 8)
