Want to reduce my audio rack size to fit my gears better... Starts with a plan.
Image
Then move to materials cut to rough dimension
Image
Milled and cut the leg materials to size
Image
One side gets a round-over
Image
and test cut the joinery
Image
The rounded side of the leg should fit as such
Image
Then The shelves gets worked on, milled and cut to rough dimension, squared and gets glued
Image
The second of three gets the same treatment
Image
Then I ran out of clamps.... Dang!

The first build had to go thru with final paint finishing and here it is ....... done with the box paint finish and added top wooden cap and bottom wooden plinth

Assembled the drivers and the stuffings (added 2 more layers of compressed polyfill behind the drivers only to improve articulation of the bass).....and here it is in action.....

Thanks for posting them in your room Joey. Soon we'll be there to enjoy them in your room.
Cheers

Started today by making a dado sled...
Image
I needed that to cut the slots on the legs
Image
Cutting the notches on the tablesaw and routed the joinery
Image
Time to move them to the workbench for assembly
Image
Image
After dry fitting and minor tweaks, glue up follows
Image
Image
With lots of glue area, this joinery is very strong. And with lots of joints, I use a slow setting glue.
Image
Its really funny when you lack one more clamp to complete the glue up... But I do manage.
Image
A couple of hours later, I turn to a grinder with a fast material removal attachment to shape the outer part of the legs
Image
An hour or so later....
Image
Image
Still very rough, but the shape is already formed...
Image
Tomorrow.... Sanding time.... haaaaaay!

Started by removing the excess leg material to make a bigger part of the top useable
Image
Image
Tapos sanding ulit and it dawned on me, baka mas maganda to kung ipareho ko sa curves ng rocking chair ni Sam Maloof. Hmmmmmm....drew the outline of where I want material to be removed. A little on the sides and a little on the bottoms....
Image
Hmmmmmmm. Tuloy ko ba?

Too late, I decided to go for it!
Image
With sanding sealer only, I think it came out great...

Had time kanina that I can sand the rack again, tuyo na kasi yung sealer eh
Image
Image
Then applied wax
Image
Like how it came out
Image
Image
But I like it better at home... Side by side with my original rack
Image
With everything in place
Image
Well, maybe remove the platform for the dac.... Perhaps soon just to hear if it makes a difference

Trying my hand on a new speaker stand design similar to my new rack to make it a set.
Image
And as always, it starts with the materials... Cut lo length
Image
Cut to width
Image
Yes it takes eight legs to make a pair of stands
Image
Also cut some for the stretchers
Image
Time to mill the legs
Image
Making sure they are square
Image
Then made a pattern... And traced it to a leg piece
Image
Cut it on the bandsaw
Image
Actually looks like a bone
Image
One down.... Seven more to go, hopefully tomorrow......

Cut the legs to final length then cut the grooves for the stretchers
Image
All done
Image
Moving to the bandsaw and with a 1/4" blade I cut the curves only
Image
Left the long straight cuts to save life on my thin blade
Image
All done
Image
Now for the straight cuts. Changed the bs blade with a 1/2" one.
Image
All done
Image
Ran out of time, tomorrow the stretchers gets worked on....

Maraming salamat Ding....

Got the stretcher's joinery cut
Image
Gluing the long sides
Image
It has a 1/4" reveal on the outer side
Image
The other legs drying as well
Image
Then I had to rush to the hospital as we almost lost my dad, glad he is well now. Coming home I was kinda upset still so I brought home the legs to vent off my frustration.
Removing stock on the inner and outer portions require me to use a chisel and lots of patience and burnt some steam off.
Image
For what its worth, this has no plans. Design is all in my head and I don't know how it will look in the end. All I know is I left a lot of chips and dust in my work area....

And after some more chisel work to remove some bulk material, I move on to the spindle sander
Image
This allow me to create a uniform curve altogether
Image
Then I added the short stretchers
Image
Later on it was initially shaped using a block plane and a spokeshave to remove still a lot of bulk material
