cars related question:

will I feel the difference of having heavier wheels in terms of performance and fuel efficiency? I am shopping for a second set of wheels (again :emo: ) and the set I am looking at is much heavier than what I currently have - 10 lbs heavier per rim... My Cayenne is 405 hp & 5376 lbs stock, modified to lose close to 50 lbs and gain (maybe) 15 hp..

I don't know about fuel efficiency but I'm pretty sure you'll feel it especially during cornering :)

10 lbs. per wheel of additional unsprung weight is significant, I'm sure your suspension springs will feel it and so will you.

thanks Jack and Desmo, I'll give it a thought. I just realized that I will use this set mostly during the winter, when we do not generally do spirited driving. I always liked the style of these rims and I have an opportunity to get a set of good used ones for 30% of retail.

I am now torn between that and this (in 20") set of OEM Turbo replica made by a company that make factory wheels for Toyota

pls say the second one is nicer, my wife likes it better 8)

By wait to power ratio (less 50lbs) the gain is only 4Hp. However, adding wait on the Wheels is another story. 10lbs (4.5kgs) per wheel really affects your car performance on acceleration but not on cruising mode. I vote also on the second Rim Model.

ooppss.. ended up with something else.

As I was getting ready to email the seller of the set in the second picture, I decided to check kijiji for the last time. alas, a tuner in Calgary posted a set taken from an Audi Q7.. the ad was not even 10 minutes old. after a few emails - I got my second set. 18" x 8" Sport Edition F10 wrapped in Pirelli Ice and Snow 255/55/18, complete with tire pressure sensors compatible with my Cayenne. made the 300 km trip to see a few customers in Calgary and picked them up on the way home. Really happy with them, as the tires are at least 85% (mic'ing 9/32" or more). The TPMS are in sleep mode for the most part and scanning with very strong signal (should be good for at least 3 seasons). The seller even rebalanced them all for me - all for $ 900.00 8) (TPMS alone are $360 new)

Image
it looks like this.. not the fanciest, but I like it... I chased it because it has one of the best performing snow tires

I will spend the money saved to restore my Modulare M7's 8)

btw, I may be one of the few who doesn't think Panameras are ugly (they are beautiful in their own way in person, and the interior is one of the best I'd seen)

now, the Sport Turismo might actually make them more appealing to the general public... I hope one day they will sell Sport Turismo with the 4.8L V8 twin turbo like the PTTS.. mind boggling to think about driving a station wagon with 700+ hp that goes 0-100 in less than 4 seconds (with after market tweaks of course)

haven't driven the car personally - but it (or it's twin BRZ) is very well reviewed by enthusiasts, among the best driver's car in 2012 according to this article.

It's a good time to be a supercar observer. Porsche and Ferrari are set to launch their flagship hybrid rocket sleds soon. Here's what they have to contend with - the McLaren P1:

yep. the 918 was predicted to do 7:30 in Nurburgring, it did 7:14 on street tires.

the world is awaiting the release of Acura NSX

and the new hybrid SLS is reported to be faster than the V-12

both Panamera and LS460 are nice cars, and in my opinion targeting different kind of car buyers. The LS460 is packed with lot's of technology and will make owners who are not into spirited driving very happy for a long time.

the new generation (2013 - 2014) Escape is so much better than the old gen... the only thing the same is the model name.
