What are those two wires for? Certainly not for electric power?

Electric power for the trolley coaches. SF has electric streetcars & trolley coaches aside from the cable car.

Trolley coaches run on rubber tires with a couple of trolley poles connected to 2 electric cables above. Streetcars runs on steel rails with a trolley pole connected to an overhead wire above. Cable cars runs on steel rails with an open slot between them.

If you look closely at the picture on the right side, there is a line (slot) in between the two lines (rails).

Unfortunately, I was unable to take a photo of the electric trolley coach during this trip. Maybe the next one.

Thanks. Overhead wires such as these always make shots of buildings from street level challenging for me. Often I am pissed because I cannot get a good angle (no wires) and end up with a "dirty" picture. Yes, there's Photoshop, but that's another story altogether. :)

Sorry to rant. I know this is WiredState and we must all love wires. But they have no place in city pictures. I wish there were ways to get rid of them.

I share your views. I was trying to take a photo of the restored structures across San Agustin Church in Intramuros some time ago that had a mess of wires.
