Kapihan.PH - The Philippine Coffee Portal

Imagine a world without Wiredstate.

None of the hobbyist conveniences, none of the learning. Sure, there would be pockets of activity among hobbyists, possibly revolving around dealerships, but the industry would never have bloomed. Most importantly, all our friendships throughout the years... never would've happened. Those folk who understand us, those folk we almost never see but who virtually "live" here.

How much poorer our experience as audiophiles would've been we'll never know. Because there is a Wiredstate, it's easy to take its existence for granted.

There was no such thing like this forum when it comes to Philippine Coffee. Fact is, our country used to be a strong producer, one of the top exporters in the world. Now the Philippines is not even a blip. Remember how during the '50s-'70s folk from all over Asia came to our country to study Rice? Well, look who's selling rice to us now... those very same folk we taught! With coffee we're even further behind than rice. What happened? Well, over 100 years of kanya-kanya. We never got our act together. There never was a community. But now we have a place for one:

Kapihan.PH

Please feel free to pass invitations around. Maraming Salamat!

Thanks, guys! Btw, if you have a favorite coffee shop or a coffee-related business you'd like to promote, just let us know over there.

Nice article Tito and a lot of it beside coffee is true!

Even in coffee, we Pinoys sometimes (sic) cannot get our act together. I do recall in the '80s, I handled one IP case where two coffee growers/brewers from the south legally squabbled over the right to the exclusive use of the term "CAFE BARAKO" as a coffee brand! The good thing is: none of them was granted exclusivity! :)

Thanks, darvin! In the meantime, here's helping spread out the word. If you'd like to experience Specialty Coffee in a "tasting environment" please check out the The Brew Room event organized by Luca & Tosh in Makati:

Modeled after the Steeping room of Papa Palheta in Singapore, this was also copied in Australia, its basically just a room, brew coffee of different origin or blend, evaluate, converse and have fun!

Brew Room is organized by Luca & Tosh Coffee Lab and is located at the 7th floor of Cityland Pasong Tamo tower, 2210 Don Chino Roces Avenue, Makati city.

This event happens every saturday, 11am. Reservation is a MUST, only 6 slots are available per week, 4+ flights of coffee brewed differently everyweek (syphon, clever, V60, French Press, etc) plus hopefully we'll have chocolate pairings with the coffee too.

June 16 is already full but you can reserve for the next event, email us at inquiry@lucaandtosh.com
