Well, yah, kinda agree with you cause I also like the Sennheiser sound. But when it comes to the PX100, or the CX500, konti na lang you can get an etymotic er6i/er4p/s na which at least for me is sonically better than those two senn models. The other senn models which I have tried are already difficult to drive by an unamped ipod.

According to their brochure
SE110 = P5550
SE210 = P7990
SE310 = P13450
SE420 = P18950
SE530 = P23500

The 2nd digit denotes the number of drivers, so 420 is dual driver and the 530 has triple drivers. For the price of the SE530, I think I'd rather go custom or get the UE triple.fi, which usually gets a better review.

Tried out the Harman KArdon (Etymotic design) with my iPhone. Sounded very thin. I even preferred the stock iPod earphones.

I asked around before. There were some who said that some UE models were available in some MAC stores, unfortunately I didn't see any when I visited Apple MAC centers in greenbelt and MOA. So I don't know where to get them locally.

Ive seen UE superfi 3 and super fi 5 in Powermac Greenbelt...pero sobra taga..i think the superfi5 was priced at 14k :fubar: . In Powermac Greenbelt, I also saw etymotic er6i for sale pero matagal na, more than a year ago. Pero these were at least a year ago, so i think they didnt replenish stocks of ety and UE...just Shure, Bose and Skullcandies :x

Come to think of it, Shure is available in a lot of stores, but i rarely see Etymotic and UE offerings in local stores.

After logitech bought UE, I thought, finally UE can now probably be distributed locally, but that hasn't happened yet.

newbie to this forum. good thing meron na ring local followings ng audiophile.

on topic:

based on my experience, I find the following great for my iPod:
Senn CX500
AKG K518 DJ -great for bass head! noise isolating
Philips SHN 9500/00
BOSE In-Ear (medyo lang, but not that great)

ok sana ang mga ito kaso di kayang i-'juice-up' ng iPod so I ony use them along with my portable amp:
Grado SR60
Alessandro MS-1

just recently acquired a Beyerdynamic DTX900 - break-in stage! :) pero sa laptop ko pa lang ginagamit.

I haven't got the time to make a detailed critical review/comparison of my earphones/headphones so can't comment on the technicalities.

Hi faux_ph and welcome to WS :)
Amongst the phones that you listed, which one is very close to or better than GradoSR60's sound?
TIA

so far, I would say Alesssandro MS-1 ( probably it's because it's a Grado SR-80 tweaked by Alessandro). But I'm getting a feeling that my Beyerdynamic DTX900 sounds the best (so far!) cos I haven't heard so crisp and detailed snares and cymbals using it. It's like listening to my MS-1 plus a tweeter with it :) !

What do you folks use to rip?

I just downloaded and (incompletely) configured EAC...di pa ako nag-pipick-up ng track info from online databases. I'll be keeping WAV for now for the hard drive and compressing using LAME for the MP3 player. I've also downloaded Monkey Audio but I'm reading FLAC is the best lossless compressor.

Am I doing this right? Any pointers would help greatly. Cheers!

About good ipod headphones... If you want the best bang for the buck that i have tried its got to be the sr80. try reversing the bowl pads if you want a richer sound yet still retaining much of the bowls detail. Reversing the bowls are still gonna be brighter than using the comfy pads or flats.

If you want to experiment with something new, Ive got a feeling the new sennheiser hd238 is gonna be good. cant wait to get them for portable use once it comes out.
