The Koss KSC-75 is getting better everyday, but now it reveals more how much my Acer notebook soundcard sucks. Talon talo sa detail compared to the Harman Kardon HDCD player ko! Aba mas mahal itong notebook ano?!!

Before the mod

After the mod, I widen the holes with my rotary tool:l :D

The mod helped a lot really... it sounded fuller to this ears.

Impressions?
Forward. The closest to Grado SR-60 sound signature.
Not as piercing as the SR60 though.
Wider soundstage.
Is it Detailed? Yes indeed!
A baby grado that costs $20.

What's the next mod? Ummm...maybe a coinmod

See you in the next episode

guys meron na din akong HD201 yahoooo... here's my long newbie type comment/review note that this is my own opinion and comments, i don't know if this is the right thread to post this nalilito kasi ko sa thread na to at dun sa headphones for dummies thread

1. i tested it using Architechtural Audio's system i forgot the brand, sya yun nasa right side mismo na

unit sa may counter (facing the counter area) yun mini or micro system na around 26k+ i'm not sure if it's

denon. The type of music that was playing is jazz female vocals (not the oldies, sorry guys i forgot na

din yun singer) the voice was very very clear! first time i heard that kind of voice quality for sure it's

b/c of the system.. low-end lang kasi system ko, the bass is soft for me hindi matigas yun tunog w/c is ok

w/ me although i prefer bassy headphones, the highs are very detailed not ear-piercing.

2. When i tested it using my pcdp... ayun! nadismaya na ako pumangit na yun tunog although the bass & highs

are still good but putting up the volume makes the sound murky, mas murky pa kesa sa px100 ko! it's b/c my

pdcp has a poor sound output sagad na yun volume pero di talaga kaya i-drive ng maganda yun HP (thanks to

arnoldc.. i'm really looking forward for that arnCmoy). The most noticeable na nawala is the clear vocals

3. Tested it using my pc. i played various type of mp3 music but still the quality of course is not as

good as AA's system but much much better than my pdcp but it's kinda ear-piercing for me di pwede yun mga

rock music, then i tried my philips hp200 again to compare it & noticed that it's not that ear-piercing so

malamang mahina sa highs un philips but the bass is better than HD201 when i tested hiphop music, px100's

bass is also way way better than hd201 di nagkalaayo yun bass ng philips at ng px100 mas maganda lang yun

bass ng px100 dahil parang gumaganda sya dahil sa mid & highs,.. philips hp200 is not that detailed in highs meron akong naririnig na kalansing na detalyado sa hd201 pero sa hp200 medyo mahina at hindi matinis, sa px100 naman tama lang at hindi ear-piercing. last thing i noticed is when i plugged my HD201 in my pc w/o music, i can hear a very slight hissing sound but when i plugged in my philips HP200 & px100 again there is no hissing sound!! it's like you didn't even plug the headphones.. guys kindly explain to me why is it like that?? is it because the highs of the HD201 is clearer than my philips??? palit palit yun 3 headphones ko bawat palit ng music at unti-unti akong nadidismaya sa performance ng hd201 parang unti-unti na din akong nagsisisi nadala lang ako nung magandang audio system nila na wala naman ako & mostly sa office pc ako nakikinig ng music so hindi din maganda.. so para gumanda yun tunog ng hd201 eh dapat magandang audio system din last song i listened is bob carlisle butterfly kisses ayun medyo maganda tunog maganda lang talaga yun mid ng hd201. maybe it has something to do w/ the mp3 compression pero bakit naman yun px100 maganda pa din.

when it comes to comfort i still prefer my philips HP200 since it is round unlike the hd201 w/c is oval

bale kung pagtatabihin mas mataas un hd201 pero payat (im referring to the speaker case use mismong nasa

tenga). kasya naman tenga ko but the problem is yun loob ng hd201 is mababaw lang so un tenga ko medyo

maluwag talaga very spacious!.. you can even move the headphone forward & backward halos abot pa nga sa

cheek bones ko at hindi nakaka-iirita sa tenga medyo malaki tenga ko but not that much.. and believe it or

here's the line up & summary when it comes to sound & my preference:

1. px100 - nice overall for me, bass is better than hd201 & philips hp200, mid is better than philips hp200, highs is better than philips hp200..eto swak sakin di masyado matining yun highs pero ok

2. philips hp200 - mid & highs are not as good as px100 & hd201 but not as ear-piercing as hd201. the bass is better than hd201 and comfortable than hd201

3. hd201 - very detailed mid & highs but kinda ear-piercing for me when played in pc, lack on bass when played in pc also but very good overall when played in AA's system natulala nga ako hanep sa tunog! pero baka yun px100 mas maganda para sakin kung natest sa system nila..eto kahuhubad ko lng ng mainit talaga sa tenga umiinit tuloy ulo ko, un pads sa ulo parang useless ksi yun philips wala naman pads pero parang ok lang..

Yung friend ko bought cheap headsets sa tiangge and used the foam pads. Sounded good on his px100.

I think the foam pads expire within a certain period regardles of usage habits. Pansin ko sabay sabay kayong PX100 users nabulbusan.

tatalope, first, i think it would be quite difficult to find a headphones that would sound the same as the px100. all phones would sound different, although it might be posible for two or more headphones to sound similar.

now for the full-sized headphones. i'm not too sure about how much you're willing to spend on a pair of headphones. but for full-sized phones, the least expensive full-sized headphone i have tried is the philips hp890. browse through arnold's posts. he has this phone, and posted his comments. higher on the price scale is the sennheiser hd515 which you saw at archi audio. two steps up higher than the hd 515 is the hd595.

try looking around if you can find a senn hd485. i haven't heard it, but headroom says it's good for its price, so i think they are worth a listen.

regarding your experience with the hd201, don't get discouraged. it might just be that your other phones match better with your pc.

tatalope,

dont be sad :D baka di lang nakaya i-drive ng source mo, wait for the CMOY, baka sakaling magbago pa ihip ng hangin

medyo me kahirapan nga i-drive itong sen201, am using a macG4 cube sa ofc, meron syang outboard na headamp parang CMOY, dun din kumakabit ang speakers  bago lumabas ang tunog, i cranked up the vol all the way up, sagad na sagad  pati vol ng i-tunes sagad na sagad din  dun pa lang bumuka ng husto ang tunog (review ala killer mike to ah  )

pero sa bahay,
using my harman kardon hd7725---> nad c320---> sen201 = 8,246 sound
this time, with the volume at 9oclock position... bumigay na sya ng husto

re: mainit sa tenga
for me not at all, 3 albums straight last friday night without an electric fan :D, di naman umusok my ears

re: lack of bass
i agree with you, madidismaya ang mga hip-hop sa bass nito
no thumpy-thumpy-boom-shakalak experience  even at high vol settings :( ... pero eto naman ang character na nagustuhan ni sputnik sa 201, natural ang bass

kung dismayado ikaw, benta mo sa kin 50% off

somebody should try this baby with a portable gear, eg ipod
pwede nyo pahiramin si sputnik ng NANO kahit for 1 year lang
i promise to give you guys a monthly review

my review part 2

when i got home last friday di ako mapakali 12 o'clock na but still i decided to test it in our home system, a yamaha avr & a pioneer dvd player, this time using an audio cd, low-end lang system namin sabi ko pwede na din to

cd 1 Clair Marlo - let it go album
Senn HD201 - bass is still lacking compared to hp200, vocals is very clear & sharp yun mga letter S sa lyrics eh matinis
Philips HP200 - bass is better, vocals is thick parang kulob, lack of mid & highs

cd 2 miles davis - miles in the sky album
Senn HD201 - bass is still lacking compared to hp200, trumpet is really clear
Philips HP200 - upright bass is more noticeable, trumpet is clear

cd 3 d' sound - spice of life (smooth escape track, eto malakas talaga yun bass)
Senn HD201 - vocals is clear, bass is better buo pa din kahit mahina yun lows, highs are good very detailed
Philips HP200 - vocals is ok but lacking a bit of highs parang kulob, bass nya parang medyo tumigas at hindi na buo

cd 4 red garland - The Nearness of you album
Senn HD201 - piano is clear parang matalas yun tunog
Philips HP200 - piano is thick sounding dahil kulang sa highs

cd 5 john coltrane - Lush Life Album
Senn HD201 - sax is ok.. buong-buo, piano is clear
Philips HP200 - di ko malaman difference sa sax but the upright bass is more noticeable

cd 6 diana krall - love scenes album
Senn HD201 - ganda vocals buong buo, letter S sa lyrics ay matinis, highs is better
Philips HP200 - ganda din vocals yun nga lang mas buhay talaga yun sa senn but the bass is better

i tried my px100 as well pero sya pa din ang panalo para sakin when it comes to low, mid & highs..the only reason i would not want this is it's a small headphones, i prefer large headphones but i will prefer the fitting of this one compared to hd497

parang di ko pa din type yun bass ng hd201 but the mids & highs are better maybe it has something to do w/ my pc's soundcard & the mp3 compression kaya ear-piercing. i decided to leave it playing overnight in my pdcp para ma-break-in ng konti but i've read somewhere that kulang pa din daw ang 24hrs for breakin in pero oks lang. When i woke-up i listened to it ok naman ganda tunog so hinayaan ko lang tuloy-tuloy hanggan sunday before lunch, then after lunch... it's time to try it again with the same system but this time i played the album...

the sheffield jazz experience album

Senn HD201 - Ayun ok na un bass! siguro dahil yun hd201 muna pinakinggan ko so wala pang comparison at baka dahil sheffield disc ginamit ko. Vocals & intsruments are very lively ang ganda parang pareho na dun s AA's system pero medyo iba pa din, highs is really good and detailed pero medyo matinis, hand claps are very sharp.

Philips HP200 - after trying this i switched back to hd201 quickly.. ayun nawala na naman yun bass ng hd201 na hinahanap ko, back to hp200… noticeable na mahina talaga yun mid and highs pero for me kung wala yun hd201 pwede na din, bass is better... i'll just use this to listened to rock/metal music sa pc ko para hindi ear-piercing dahil nga mahina yun mids & highs.

PX100 - after listening to the hd201 medyo napansin ko malakas talaga yun bass ng px100 and medyo hindi ganun ka-detailed yun mid medyo kulob na din yun vocals compared w/ hd201, the highs is good hindi matinis

diana krall - love scenes album again

senn HD201 - rinig na rinig yun hissing sound kaya tuloy yun letter S sa lyrics and yun finger snaps eh masyadong sharp, vocals is very clear but loud for me (i don't prefer high mids)

Philips HP200 - eto parang naka dolby-nr on kasi medyo humina yun hissing sound tama lang yun vocals for me pero konting improvement lang sana but the highs is not as good as hd201

guys please take note that this are my personal comments, i'm not an audiophiler and i prefer bass & highs but less on the mids. for me i still prefer the sound of px100 b/c this one meets my preference but i now noticed that the bass is very strong and i have to lessen the amount of bass pero depende sa music but in hd201 sagad na yun bass sa reciever ko pero wala pa din yun hinahanap ko na bass so i prefer using this in classical & jazz. Ok naman na yun bass ng hd201 but i think it would be better for me kung yun bass eh pareho ng philips hp200 in konting less ng vocals. Meron pa pala ko napansin, yun wires ng hd201 at px100 parehong manipis pero yun hp200 makapal yun wires para tuloy nakakatakot mahatak yun wires ng hd201. and the philips doesn't have leather like sa earcups/pads.. di ba madali matuklap yun leather ng hd201? yun lumang philips ko kasi natuklap eh baka dahil na din sa tagal

nakakalito talaga pag meron kang same type of headphones. di ko tuloy malaman ano gagamitin except the px100 since iba sya ng category when it comes to size, i still prefer my philips hp200 over the hd201 medyo sosyal lang talaga yun sennheiser, un philips medyo cheap yun plastic sa gitna yun part na nasa ulo... i was supposed to give my philips headphones to my gf but now i've changed my mind.. yoko naman bigay yun hd201 haha hirap talaga decide

tatalope,

if you're a bass fan, try listening to the sennheiser hd457. medium-size, open back supra-aural headphone.

onedown: i was eyeing for the 497 before i get my px100.. nabasa ko sa review na mas ok daw 497 kesa sa 457.. and the reason i didn't buy the 497 was i think masakit sa tenga pagtagal kasi nga med size hp sya so nakapatong sa tenga talaga.. oo nga pala i also tried akg's k-55 lakas ng mids that's why i decided to get the philips hp200.. regarding the hp890 when i was supposed to buy it tinest ko sa pcdp ko nahirapan i-drive so di ko na kinuha peroa ganda talga yun may stand pa pero wala na ko nakikita nun tagal na

tatalope, personally, i also prefer the 497 over the 457. the reason why i suggested the 457 because the 457 has more bass. too much bass in my opinion that i find the 457 a bit too thick to my liking.

as for the k55, i haven't listened to them seriously. i just got to hear them on a listening booth, playing a song that i was not familiar with. based on that short listening session, i'm not inclined to buy a k55 in the future.

arnold, just noticed--your jvc as well as your koss are both clip-on type phones. any issues on comfort/positioning kung naka salamin ka? just wondering if the end of the glasses' temples get in the way of the phones. :)
