mga sir... is the shure in-ear monitors considered as a noise cancellation earphones/headphones??

Unless specified, most Shure IEMs do not actively cancel noise. What they do provide is noise isolation from external noise. In my experience with IEMs, they provide excellent noise isolation achieved by multi-flanged silicone tips or expanding foams or foamies. [/i]

gino: tnx for the info about IEMs

onedown: i'm looking for a noise canceling earphones not necessarily a shure brand.. i just want to listen in a low volume so i don't want to hear outside noise lalo na while commuting.

any suggestions on a cheap but good quality noise canceling phone? puro philips nakikita ko and altec lansing (around 7k..mahal!)... btw is the senn cx300 same w/ shure IEMs in terms of functionality?

Headamp is terrific. Now burning-in.

CX300 are in-ear monitors too similar to the E2c to e4c series. Still not active noise cancelling phones. Sound quality wise, they should be right in between the E2C and E3C.

If you want a sense of how these block noise, buy earplugs at mall hardwares. You are looking more or less at the same level of isolation. I find the tri-flanges to be more effective.

Oh, if you are on a budget, don't expect stellar performance for IEMs below P6000.

tatalope, di ba 3T lang yung altec?

Altec IM716 is P6800 last time I peeked. IM616 should be cheaper but doesn't have overwhelming reviews. The difference? some resistors and a vol pot. An in-line adaptor should bring the IM616 up to speed.

IM616 can be driven easily but suffers in tonal balance. IM716 has low headroom but sounds better specially when amped.

Yung P3k baka hindi in-ear na Altec.

dogears: yun nga ata un nakita ko na altec di ko kasi alam yun model eh, just saw it in spectra in park square 1... parang hindi nga worth yun price mag senn px250 na lang ako same price lang at ng altec hehe

gino: available ba dito yun headamp? how about the cx300 meron na ba dito? puro px 400 earphones nakikita ko.. there is also a sony mdr-ex71 same w/ cx300 pero malamang wala dito

Arnoldc is now taking orders for the headphone amp. It not a portable. Transportable tube amp. See separate thread.

Wala pa akong balita sa CX300.

tatalope, noise cancelling phones are a bit more costly than regular phones. aside from philips, sennheiser also has noise cancelling phones, px 250, though it might cost a bit. i think they have a newer model.

another option is bose quet comfort, though i have no idea how it sounds, and how much it costs. but somehow, i feel that it costs much more than the sennheiser. bear in mind also that you need batteries for the noise cancelling function to work.

you just want a pair of cans to block outside noise? have you considered a mid-sized sealed phones?

regarding arnold's tube head amp, check out this thread: ArnoldC's Tube Headphone Amp

if you are interested, bilisan mo. dalawa na lang ang available.

gino, thanks for the feedback.

gino, onedown: i thought the headamp that gino mentioned in his earlier post was a brand of earphones haha nalito ako sorry about that.. may kamahalan ata yun bagong project ni sir arnold.. solve na ko dito sa arnCmoy :D

onedown: parang naiilang ako to walk outside wearing a headfones bigger than px100 so i'm considering earphones... i think in-ear type is the solution since noice canceling is quite expensive

tatalope, i haven't tried noise cancelling phones outdoors, so i'm not sure how effective they are in blocking out noise. my concern is the size of the cups. mini phones, such as the px250 or px200 rest on your ears, and can't really provide a tight seal, which may allow some noise to enter through the gap between the cups and your ears.

in-ear monitors might be your best option if you're not comfortable wearing mid-sized cans.

shure?

tatalope, i have no idea why in-ear phones tend to be more expensive. the cx300 is senn's in-ear phone, right? i'm not that updated about the latest in phones anymore. how much do they cost?

They use different and often smaller drivers. Some having multiple drivers and crossovers. If I am not mistaken, they evolved from the high demands of the pro music, motorsports, and audiology industry (hearing aides). With emphasis on sound isolation and musical fidelity. You will notice too that good sounding ones have home type impedances are truly home headphones in sound delivery.

Today, manufacturers have seen this growth and jumped in. Many throwing in mediocre sets in the mix giving the IEMs a bad rap.

Name brand here are Shure and Etymotic Research. But they are not alone. You have Ultimate Ears, NHT (Now Hear This), and of course old brands jumping in like Altec Lansing, Sony, Philips, JVC, to name a few.

By far, you get what you pay for. The E2C simply doesn't cut it for me for example. I can imagine the same for the other sub P6000 units.
