Help Me Replace My Sennheiser PX-100

Postby rtsyrtsy » Wed Apr 24, 2013 2:13 pm

After about a decade of faithful service, my beloved workout companion, the Sennheiser PX100 (the original version, not the current, 2nd version) broke. One headphone broke off from the headband after years of abuse in my gym bag.

I thus now turn to the collective wisdom of WS for a replacement.

The PX-100 II is certainly an option. But I've seen many interesting new entrants like the B&W.

I will use these headphones plugged straight into an iPad / iPhone. As a WS member, I know I sould be striving for a neutral, honest, transparent sound. As a long-time WS member, we also know that this hobby is about finding the right set of compromises. So I'd go out on a limb and say that I will use this in the gym most of the time so I'd like a lively, energetic sound. Grado's seem to suit but for some reason, i've never gotten around to picking one up.

Thanks JoeyGS. These are a bit too big and bulky to carry in my gym bag and to keep on whilst on the treadmill.

Has anyone here used companies like Perfect-Fitâ„¢ Custom-Fit Ear Molds? This could breathe new life into my Shure SE535's which I've stopped using because I used the last comfortable foam plug and I've not gotten around to buying new ones.

Looks like I'd pay a visit to an audiologist shortly.

If you can get the Koss KSC-75, its as good as (better IMO) the px-100

My reply is too late. But for those on the same boat, if you liked the PX100 sound, you will like the HD-239 sound. These are on-ear phones. Very neutral, a bit thin sounding (like the PX100), big decent bass. The phone can be driven by an iPhone 5 jack. I am used to better sound but I can spend a lot of time enjoying these phones in non-critical mode.

Hi,

You can consider Polk Audio Ultrafit 2000.
I use it while jogging. Rugged build, with pause/play function over the right speaker (headphone)
Over the neck type. Good sound quality. Not too expensive.

Hope that helps

ArnoldC!

I had grand plans to have custom IEM's made. I found an audiologist who can make my ear impression. I even set aside the budget for a good custom IEM.

Then we had a re-structuring in the company I work for and I got super busy. So thus far, this is what I've used:

For cycling:

For working out / stereo, I use Apple's stock new earbud.

I share all this at the expense of being booted out of Wiredstate for not being an audiophile anymore.

Punta ka pa rin dito! It is now the Dubai Summer Surprises (Image).
