Which headphones to get under 5k?

Hey guys, need a bit of advice. Saw another thread similar to my question but I guess my requirements are a bit different. I listen to a lot of jazz so I'm looking for something fairly neutral with an expansive soundstage that doesn't need an amp. Something not too bulky like the px100 would be a big plus. Source would be my iPhone.

the px100 is a good compact headphone. if you're looking for alternatives, you can try the koss porta pro or the audio technica ath-on3.

Try ksc-75. Its a lightweight clip-on. Avalable at 5th avenue stores and less than 2k

Thanks for the replies! Seems a lot of people really like the porta pros. Is it available in 5th avenue like the ksc75? Last I heard sa tipid pc siya available. Will also be auditioning the sr60i later this afternoon.

try calling the park square branch of 5th avenue if they still have one. i saw one on display a few months ago. grado has a lot of fans, although it's not my top choice. something to consider if you're getting a grado--they tend to leak sound a lot.

Passed by Acoustic Dimension to check out the grados. They really do leak a lot of sound but I like its SQ. Will have to check out the porta pros before I make a decision though. Thanks again.

The ksc 75 and KPP are good choices. Personally, a Grado Sr60 or SR80 are better sounding for any music genre given your budget, pre-owned of course. I listen to a lot of jazz with my SR60 and they're pretty enjoyable. Happy hunting sir...

You might want to take a look at the Ultrasone HFI450.
It goes for about $100 in the USA. I don't know if the local distributor stocks it and at what price.

It folds so portability is decent. Some people in Head-fi have to mod it to make the pads more comfortable.

Just an update. I decided to buy the sr60i from audio amplified. My wife saw headphones when I came home and tried them out. She loved it so much that she decided to keep them She' s going to semi-retire her px100 na daw while the grados are being broken in. Hehehe. I guess I'm still in the market for new headphones since I don't want to buy the same thing.

congrats on the grado. sorry that it quickly got "kidnapped."

now the search for your own. good idea to get something else. you get to swap phones with your wife once in a while for a different flavor when listening to your favorite music. good luck in your hunt.
