Have you tried teflon tape? Provided the threads and grooves have not been stripped, wrapping teflon tape might be enough to give you a tighter fit.

Teflon tape is the method I resorted to, and it seems to work just fine.

Thanks to all who replied, now I've gained a lot of useful info on screws, threads, threadlockers, Loctite, Hammond cases, etc.
