To all those familiar with different tubes,

Can you post the kind and brand of tube and their distinct character? Thanks.

sith lord gamby, there are a couple of threads about popular tubes including their characteristics. lots of comments from mozilla to racio.

Best to narrow down your question to a specic tube. There are tons of types and brands out there.

The 6SN7, 12AU7 and now 12AT7 is well covered here. Wish we could have more insight on triode power tubes 2a3, 300b, 45 etc... Would be nice to get insight the flavor of each tube type before we get into the brands.

ok lets take out the brand. maybe just the kind-300b,6550,el34,12au7,12ax7, el84,12at7, etc etc....

marty, my main amp is a 2A3, and it has been for quite a while. fast, dynamic and can do rock. the 10Y is also excellent for vocals, the 50 is also a general all-rounder, while the 45 is for vocals. the 300B i tuned so that it will be fast sounding too, as i hate the 300B in its usual bloated, slow presentation.

Thanks Arnold, that puts things in perspective. Could you give the range of output with one output valve per channel?

2A3 - 3-3.5w
300B - 6-8w
45 - ?
10Y - ?
50 - ?

Lastly, any feedback (first hand or otherwise) on the large triode tubes 805, 845, PX-25, 211 (are these even triode tubes?
