Postby Donlovejoy » Tue Jan 11, 2005 12:35 pm

My current Preamp(Audio Research) uses four (4) 6922 tubes.

Whats the best 6922 tubes?

Hi,

I used to own an ARC LS16 Mk1, and the tubes that sounded good to me in that preamp were the Valvo e88cc.

There really is no "best 6922 tube", let your ears be the judge of what is "best".

That said, Telefunken CCa, Siemens CCa, Siemens e188cc, Amperex Holland 7308, Amperex Holland PQ white labels, early Mullard CV2492 are all good in different ways. Enjoy your tube-rolling!

Donlovejoy,

I've found that mixing 6922's/6DJ8's/E88CC between V1/V2 and V3/V4 makes the LS7 "soft sounding."

I'd replaced the tubes with similar brand. IMHE.

I like the ARC LS-7 musical presentation. I beleive it is underrated amongst ARC pre-amps!

I'm using 6DJ8's made for Hewlett Packard Test Gears.

What Oldfogey mentioned is exactly my thoughts too. There is no
best sounding tube, but imo, there are worse sounding tubes. :)

There will be types of tubes that are clearly a cut above the rest.
And those are the types mentioned by OF. I have been using ARC products as phono stage for the past 20 years and the ones I have loved,
and matched my system, and more importantly my bias, are the Telefukens and next, the Mullards. I have tried also the Amperex USN-CEP(fabulously lush sounding tubes- I've never tried pot in my life but I would
imagine that is what it would do to me, these tubes), Siemens 1950s CCa's, (great dynamics and utterly clean sound ), Mullard 2492/6922s (
currently my 2nd fave tube of this type, and my holy grail and mother of
all 6922s, the Telefunken CCa-Gabl ( it basically sums up all the good
traits of the tubes that I just mentioned - clean, dynamic, excellent
soundstage, and a beautiful emotionally charged midrange ).

You should. You'll enjoy the music more without having to worry about what rare, exotic tubes to plug in. Far out, man!

Pot and music. The perfect combination. Para bang coffee with coffee mate. Thanks for the "sessions" boss!

Finally a great suggestion from the main man himself ARNOLDC! ayan naka off na ang caps lock but on your name, you deserve to be capatalized.

Please do include it on your list and will immediately check the DIY and Tubes.
