hi SoFtCliPpEr,

actually kanya-kanya yan eh. some can live with 89db matched with 1.8wpc SET amps while others demand more than 100db for anything less than 5wpc. 8)

sabi ng iba the 1st watt is usually the sweetest that's why they go for the some of most efficient speakers . personally i find that OK lang mag-compromise a bit on the "juiciness" of the SET kasi i like the overall sonic balance of a 92 to 95 db speakers, high and flat impedance speakers. this is why i prefer an 8-watter. others are not satisfied with 300b amps or 845 amps kasi medyo brusko na daw at tunog push-pull.

iceman90a,

i can lend you a Gordon Rankin Bugle 45 prototype (i just have to put in the coupling cap which i scavenged to have my other amp work) but you have to supply the tubes, the other 45 is my main amp now as the 2A3, 300B and 807 are moving to a new, more decent chassis. in the works is a WE404A driven 2A3 (pentode driving a triode).

Softclipper,

Si Arnold, may DIY na 45 SET, 1.8 watts per channel.

Si toobs at choobs, parehong may Darling amp, .75 watts. Am not sure though if this is a SET amp.

Cheers.

Zetroce,

yung "Darling" ni Toobs at Choobs (parang kambal na 'yang dalawang 'yan ayaw nang mag-hiwalay, hehehe :D ) SET Amp, using 1626 triodes.

Cheers.

Ganun ba. :) I know Ike personally but have not met Ed yet. Si Ike lang nagkukuwento na meron nga silang dalawa nung "Darling" Amp. He was supposed to bring it to my house para i-test sa Bara-Bara ko. Si Ike lang nakarating, hindi yung amp, mabigat daw kasi and i don't have 110 volts then. :D

Cheers! :)

the Stirling are excellent speakers indeed for SETs. i've tried them with various SET amps: vt25/10y, 45, 2a3, 300b..

and they are so easy to drive. they are absolutely first rate especially with thr Tono 300b :-)

SoFtCliPpEr wrote:Guys maybe you can help me clear the field here. If speaker SENSITIVITY doesn't necessarily equate to it being EFFICIENT, is it correct to assume that we are talking about a loudspeaker with a sensitivity of 95DB and a nominal impedance of 2 ohms?? Is there such an animal of a transducer in the market?

If so for low powered SET the best specs to look into a speaker would be one with a sensitivity of 95DB SPL and an impedance of 8 OHMS. This would put me now in a dilemma
for my personal preference I like to use low sensitivity speakers about 87DB nothing above 90DB with a nominal impedance (W) of 8 and a minimal impedance of 4. Just to accomodate SETs do I now need to re-orient my preferences in speakers as well? Or would it be best for me to maintain my happy compromise using my EL34's.

Just asking :)

I know a guy who runs a 87dB SPL speaker on 5 watts, it should not be a problem, 90dB + speakers is good if your running 1 to 2 watts, you do not have to compromise that is a fallacy

Since the 300 and 811 are of the same variants (or family), will the Super Tono 300B amp runs on an 811 tubes?

What needs to be done for it to do so? Or I am just spinning my own web here.

Thanks,

Sir...Tanong ko lang, why most tube amps used el-type looking transformers? Why nobody come up with a design using a toroidal or super-ring transformers...less heat, less vibration with a short signal path?

Bagito ako sa tube, I just want to know what are the sound differences and performances between triode & pentode-type valve amps (I don't know kung tama iyong description ko)?

How do they arrived with the classes for amps as A, AB, B, C....J..etc.

Thanks.
