MSM's new TURNTABLE - for real this time :-)

Postby m_shoe_maker » Sat Oct 08, 2005 1:41 pm

Yehey :!: My VPI TNT Jr. Mk2, with VPI JMW 10. :)
Image

Upgrade time :!: :) First on the list is a VPI Periphery Ring a.k.a. LP Outer Clamp used by the VPI TNT6 and the TNT HRX. :)

The quest for a TNT Chop Chop - TNT6 / TNT HRX wannabee is on. :D

TNT Jr. Mk2 at play..... :)

Many of us go gaga over VTA and azimuth. :) But even with the slightest warp on your record, your meticulously adjusted VTA and azimuth is just useless..... :P The answer :?: An LP clampdown system. 8) Don't like the noise, vibration, problems of vacuum hold-down systems :?: This is the answer..... :)

A closer look at that Periphery Ring..... :)

Cart is still my old Clearaudio Victory. :)

Phonostage / preamp is an old Precision Fidelity C7A. :) I'm using a Denon Step-Up tranny for my MC cart. :)

Yup, konting parts na lang, TNT6 na. :) Problem is, those parts are soooo expensive. :x Kaya malamang, cart muna ang next project ko. :)

IMHO, my old Victory had a good match with the old-school TNT platter. :) Dark + Detailed = Good Sound (subjectively for me)

With the new generation acrylic platter of VPI, iba na ng konti ang sonic signature. :) Time to optimize this by finding a different cartridge with a slightly different character - not a 180 degree shift in "House Sound", but just a tad different.......

I do not fault any product, its just a matter of getting the correct marraige between components. :) The hunt for that elusive cartridge "House Sound" is ON :!: :)

Reviewer ka talaga shoomie!  Is it the density of the new platter? or the new polymers used that had tweaked the sound ever so slightly towards neutrality? 8)

Congratulations! Nice rig!

Which is better, VPI or Clearaudio :?: Hard to answer. Different strokes for different folks. :) KOK owns both a TNT6 and Master Reference with Strads (SF and not CA :D ) for speakers. :o :o :o

You can pick which sound you prefer. :) However he is just selling his TNT6. :) Not that he prefers his Clearaudio over his VPI. He just plans to upgrade to a TNT HRX. :o

I don't know the nerdish explanation about what the chemical composition of the platter is. :P  All I know is that its white acrylic, and a lot lighter than the old school, hernia inducing, stainless steel / lead / black acrylic platter.

From my brief experience when I used an Audioquest 7000 (Scantech / Lyra creation), that is one of the "House Sounds" I would like to partner with my TNT. :)

Pwede..............
