Wow Revox B77 Open Reel. Talk about a blast from the past! Even the Revox bouncy bouncy with linear tracking arm. Whatever happened to SAE and there quasi parametric EQs?

I beleive SAE was purchased by TEAC sometime in the 80's and died soon afterwards.

The last time I saw those SAE stuff being sold was at Reference Audio back in the late 80s to early 90s.

You guys remember this store at MCS and Virra Mall :?:

SAE stuff reminds me of the cockpit of a Jumbo Jet.

while this is a '901' thread, allow me to share my first 'hi-fi' set up which consisted of :

Bose 301 (bnew)
Sansui integrated amp (2nd hand)
Sansui 2-head tape deck ( -do- )
Sony CD player

i put this together '89-'90. got the Sansuis for P5k and the Bose for a whopping P13k which i borrowed from my (now ex-)wife, who also owned the CD player.

was very proud of my rig then, i thought the 301s had smooth sound and great bass (a lot of it mid-bass pala as i would realize later). soundstage? depth? never heard of 'em then.

my tastes evolved when i got to work abroad and was gradually exposed to other brands and audiophiles.

i eventually sold the bose for half the purchase price & the sansuis for a song in the early 90s.

looking back, imho there were a lot of worse speakers, but Bose was among the most overpriced brands.

make no mistake, though, the Bose brand continues to have a strong following in our shores.

The BOSE 901 is sort of "Faith". You can't explain it basta yan na yan.

During my high school days, we would hook up the speaker from wimpy receivers to huge power amps, OK pa rin tumunog - Direct Reflecting magic. :twisted:
