You're a lucky guy to have gotten your Squeezeboxes jambam. It's almost a crime that Logitech discontinued it. It was a wonderful product.

i have recently set up a simple digital system, the hardest part for me was translating terms. Could one of the experts please provide a glossary of terms?

It was just last year that i learnt that "to rip" meant "record".
Now i have to deal with new meanings of words in my one and only language:
Squeezebox (Roger said his mom had one so i guess these things have been around as long as i have).
Why so much fruit?
Raspberry (also a rude noise and French hat colour).
Blackberry (fruit that gets you into trouble as it stains your clothes).
Olive (great in a vodka Martini).
Apple (the main ingredient of cider and Calvados).

OK enough, a serious question, what is the oldest generation ipad / iphone / non Apple device that will connect (wireless) to my Apple airport express?

Thank you Jack ,

What I really did was a squeezebox replacement using a pogoplug device

This one is both a squeezebox server and a Headless player at the same time . And you can connect other squeezebox devices to it , another pogoplug , Ios/ android device with squeezebox client app, or a real squeezebox player.
Control is via a Smartphone or Tablet running the remote squeezebox control app (e.g. ipeng/squeezepad for IOS , Squeezer /Squeeze commander for Android)

Sorry I am not using an airport express , but I have recycled an Ipad 1st gen as a controller and and player for squeezebox server ,

a 2nd Gen Ipod touch as a docked player .

AS long as there is an app that is you can use on the Old Ios or Android device , it should function as a music player.
