How to convert from WAV to MP3

Postby Noel » Thu Mar 24, 2011 4:05 pm

I have about 250 CDs ripped to WAV using EAC, stored in a USB drive. What I need to do is to have this same WAV library but in MP3 256kbps format. I have googled how to convert WAV to MP3 and amazingly there is no clear solution. LAME is commonly mentioned, but there are little instructions on how to use this as it is not exactly user friendly. The WAV library I use on my ipod video, while the MP3 I am planning to load on my ipod nano, as much as it will hold. Appreciate if you you can point me in the right direction.

I think you can do this wirelessly by Home Sharing on iTunes. Or maybe you can plug both to itunes via USB. Then you tick 'convert to 128 bit rate' setting on your iPod nano and copy the files from the other iPod. It will automatically convert/downsize as it copies.

i tried fre:ac a few weeks ago to convert some flac files to mp3. the problem i encountered - it cuts a few seconds from the intro and i could not find the cause.

i've tried switch http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html. it's free and it works for me.

Do a search on the Hydrogen Audio Forums.

That's where I got instructions for eac to rip and convert to mp3 or flac.

I ended up with something called Free WAV to MP3 Converter from free-audio-converter.net. Thing worked like a charm and apparently uses lame, just with a user friendly GUI. Now I have most of my WAV library in 320kbps MP3 version as well. Thanks all.
