USB Cable

Postby Stealth » Thu Dec 16, 2010 10:41 pm

For audio listening via laptop to a dac using a USB cable, will there be sound deterioration/difference if the cable is longer? What's a good brand of USB cable? Is there a difference between branded cables and generic cables?

The maximum length is 5 meters for high-speed devices. 3 meters for low speed devices.

Is there a difference between branded and generic?

Yes. The price. So long as the cable can meet the specs of the USB standard, you should be ok

Hahaha! :P
If there is, I didn't notice it (except for the price and the packaging) :geek:
I have a 'usual' printer cable about 3m-long and compared it to a "branded" 1m-long hi-fi USB cable and they sound the same; just make sure the connectors are tight as there are 'generic' printer cables that are rather loose - and I am quite biased against that.

The whole difference will lie on/in your DAC.
