It's hard to tell if either is good (or bad) without hearing them.

The second one is enclosed, has a torroidal psu, and runs 4 DAC chips. The first one costs less and accepts 192kHz / 24-bit (the second one is supposedly limited to 96kHz / 24-bit).

Which would I choose? Having a lot of 192kHz files from Linn records and Lindberg Lyd means that the first one is the logical choice for me.

thanks Stagea. :) very risky. hehe. yes, that is also my 1st option and one comment says it sounded like his benchmark dac pre. don't know if that's true. maybe after modding it. hmm...

this is 300~400USD price range.

i would go for the Wolfson DAC. Been playing with a Pioneer Blu ray player equipped with the Wolfson DAC and it is good.

Hi looks,

The best way to get a reliable answer is to find a way of listening to them yourself. The second best way is to get an honest appraisal from someone whose ears you trust. However, if they are cheap enough that you don't mind "buying to try" then you should acquire them.

Upgraded tube. :) You can hear this unit either at E-Home or at AV Shop / MLK Enterprises.

I haven't auditioned the DAC magic yet. Compared to my 740c, CA ako. ;) Pero for it's price, you can't go wrong considering it's features. Very versatile talaga. It sounds more than descent. Dami pang inputs. USB, optical, digital coax, analog rca and meron pang input sa harap for portable devices. Manually selectable outputs din between tube and SS. Volume pot can also be byassed (ata) w/c sounded better for me.

No Detail

Postby Squirrelnutzipper » Tue Nov 16, 2010 8:38 pm

I looked at that Maverick dac and although it looks nice, there is no information on the specifications. There is however a lot of advertizing hype all over the internet, without any details. That should be a warning to potential purchasers. Furthermore, the fact that it has a tube, allegedly in the output, is really nothing special. I have of course not heard it, but Mullard88's advice is very sage. Anyone interested in this purchase would be very well advised to go have a listen and compare it to other dacs. I suspect there are far better units and value propositions out there. At least with most other products, there will be some specifications and solid information, so one wil know what they are buying, be it a pig or diamond.

there was a china made DAC that some of the WS members auditioned a few years ago. I tried it out myself and I wasn't too impressed with it. But take mine with a grain of salt, as that was done four or five years ago.

There's one- Yulong, that is a rip-off of the Black Cube. So if you like BC sound, then the Yulong may well fit.
