Ttommy,

Thanks for sharing the link. Very interesting.

But no thanks since the Dubai Shopping Festival just concluded and I gorged on books from the newly opened Kinukouniya (spelling?!?). If I start reading about cMP, when will I ever start on all the other books? :D

man, if this thread is a judge of the current state of the OD...

i was in the computer shops in Trinoma and saw a couple of multi-disk array 'boxes' (for raid-type storage daw) and this sparked an idea of adapting something similar into my house (soon?? :?: ).

thanks to L'es and the rest for posting about 'how to quiet-down' the PC - interesting - and another project...

OT na'to
Jack, guys, what is "ducting"?
I have an aged split-type in my living room (but that's my wife's turf for her music) and a window-type in my listening room/office and i get really frustrated with the noise level that gets in the way of critical listening.

Back to topic
i'm bull-headed: Fully Booked just had a ton of SACDs (from the last i visited) and here i am building my stack... no, i'm not shooting myself on the foot, i'm just enjoying these pricey ODs while i can

after reading this thread, im seriously considering a PC and either a squeezbox or transpoter from logitech... i just have problem... i don't think i can learn to do this techie stuff, the simple idea of buying a CD and putting it in a CD player, still applies to me...

anyway, this has been very informative... just got to try if i can cope with all this technology, hehe. 8)

Indeed, there is a rather steep learning curve in computer audio. The pace of development is also fast so you don't only have to ramp up your knowledge fast, you should also absorb knowledge at a fast clip to stay in the know.

But if you've found your way around a PC or Mac, computer audio can be thought of an extension. Staying in the know is actually a good exercise to keep the brain sharp.

I think I should re-start my computer audio trip. The first step is rather arduous--ripping hundreds of CDs. I just realized that the 20 minutes or so to a side of a vinyl record isn't good while cooking. :D

Considering the transport mechanism, streamers are definitely superior than a PC to USB DAC. Streamers e.g. Squeezebox stream audio over TCP via wireless or Ethernet.

It's best if you can compare for yourself. Get a DAC with USB, coax, optical so you can compare direct PC to USB and through a streamer.
