Tweeters to match those Altecs

Altec Open Baffles, etc.

Just another point that might just be worth mentioning as well. When I first heard these OBs at Arnold's, I noticed that he removed some carpeting. Carpets can pretty soak up the highs. The same is true for my friend's OB set-up here in Cebu using I believe the same drivers as audioboy's.

Mine sits on less carpet too.

It's possible that the carpet can absorb some of the highs but it's rather remote and if at all the effect is minimal. If you listen at the back side of the OB, you'll notice that there's much less HF content. My main listening room is carpeted and I don't use super tweeters with 755As.

On another note the 755A's rated frequency response is 70-13,000 cycles whereas the 755C's spec is 50-15,000. The C really looks good on paper but even a non-audiophile will have no problems hearing that the 755A has more HF extension and the C just goes little bit lower in the LF. I remember the alnico 403A I had sounding slightly more extended in the HF than the 755C, yet it's only rated to 11khz....just goes to show that we can't really take those specs too seriously.

A good point to consider between these drivers no doubt. There can indeed be some differnces between these drivers more than the specs will tell us.

I was simply trying to rule out some possibility here why it can be quite difficult to hear a little extension with heavy carpet and furnishing for speakers that are not being helped by tweeters.

I haven't heard those 755As to exactly tell but hearing you say they're on a carpeted floorsuggest that they indeed have more energy to spare beyond the 403As.

OB fans should know there's an addition to the list of LS users who's in a limbo with OBs and altecs. Welcome Oscar! According to him, he was already a convert even before he got a pair. A true audiophile knows what sounds good even before he hears one! Cool.

G2si NOT!

This is what I use now, and happy with it :D

Thanks to Alegria Audio for the prompt response ;)

With oil caps, I get a refined, smooth top end extension that complements my Oxford mid-horn. I'm now happy with my speaker setup and search is over :)

Are you talking about the full range on OBs? Or the other open baffle with woofers?

PS.

I've been lucky, blessed, to have found a pair of Richard Allan full range drivers. They do have a deeper sound, dynamic mids and highs, and the usual smoothness in sound that full range drivers possess. End of search for me too!

Re: Tweeters to match those Altecs

I'm wondering if there are new developments on this. I am looking for a solution to bringing a bit more air and ambience to a pair of OB's i'm experimenting on. Has anyone tried new tweeters? Are there any new products on the market I could try to integrate into a pair of hawthorne Audio Iris 15"?

I'm still using the Fostex, but I may order SEAS from Madisound.

Borrow a Fostex, JBL or even Beyma. You know who to contact, he is only a text away....mounted na with XO/attenuator, 'plug 'n play'.....

Joseph yung Altec ko if you remember is only 96dB, and there's a SEAS na 94dB, so pwede na yun for me, but maybe not for Marty.

Marty, baka kailangan mo ng horns?
