Koetsu Gallery - The Colors of KOETSU

Postby jadis » Mon Nov 07, 2005 9:06 pm

After several unsuccessful attempts to have decent close-ups of my Koetsu Black with my old Canon V3, I decided to give it another try with my new Kodak 4.0mp and I got better results. It's been with me since 1997 although the original owner bought it early 80s or late 70s. ( it's quite old so I had to clean the body a bit.)

A little off topic, but...

Was your tonearm damaged? It looks like part of the "headshell" has broken off. O ganun talaga yan?

KD,

i think what chipped off is the paint or maybe what we call the 'masilla', leaving the original aluminum portion exposed. it has not be hit with anything though. funny, i never noticed this till these pics came out. :)

KD, Jadis, the Eminent Technology armtube for 2.0 is really like that. It's not chipped or something. The newer (relatively) 2.5 armtube is mas pulido. It was a cylinder na pinipi yung isang end for the cartridge mounting.

But yun na nga, medyo pangit yan... compared to all i've seen, both 2.0 and 2.5.

I miss the ET ah...

that is right, Arnold. it's an aluminum tube that was crimped at the end to flatten it as a headshell. the ET 1, or the original ET looks uglier. very crude workmanship. nothing like an air tangent for a forsell air bearing. but those things are costly though. ok intong ETs for warped LPs, even severely warped ones can sing. no sweat sya.

Jack, Jadis,

Can't use the periphery ring with an ET-2 mounted on a TNT. Sabit yung ring sa manifold.

Speaking of the Rosewood (or aka RED), I actually bought one directly from Winston Ma of FIM in the mid 80's. It was mounted on a Fidelity Research FR 64 FX which I managed to shoe horn into an Ariston RD 80 deck. What a sound, all the bloom and lushness of the Black with a dash of added sweet extension on top, you get the picture don't you? I was running it straight to a CJ PV 5 pre. That's one cart I regret having sold.

kukang,

yes. ring will hit the manifold, but again, with the ET2, warped lps can be played even without the ring. for extreme warped lps, using the ordinary vpi delrin screw down clamp with the washer in the spindle can do the trick. it's a good combination for warped lps, vpi and ET2.

Jadis,

I totally agree. Magaling talaga yung ET with warped LP's. I suppose the air bearing has a lot to do with it. The arm just tracks beautifully. 8) 8)
