What is 'jadis' ? (and its pronounciation)

Postby jadis » Fri Sep 30, 2005 6:37 pm

I learned from my younger sister who was visiting last month, ( she has lived in France, near Normandy, since 1996 and speaks fluent French ) that the meaning of "Jadis" is, a long time ago, or to some extent, once upon a time. The word jadis often begins in a sentence when telling a story, like, a long time ago, my dad was still working in ..... That is where jadis is used. And, some more trivia, or maybe just some info, jadis is simply pronounced Jah-dis. Not jay-dis, jah-dee, ya-dee, or jay-dee. :)

according to our manager who came from Michelin in France for a project: mishelan (french and european), mishelin (americans) either way works daw. wag lang "mitchelin" or "mikelin" or iba pang flavors.

After all these years, I finally got to 'hear' an actual frenchie pronounciation of the word 'jadis'.

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Fr-jadis.ogg
(on top of the page, click on the 'playback' sign)

Spelling it out, it would be something like: "zsah-dizzz". :)

I almost wanted to change my username because I can't even pronounce it right all this time.
