PART 6 - And the TWO became ONE (Genesis 101-new pics)

Postby jadis » Sat Aug 07, 2004 9:28 am

* The owner of this system had ugraded his Genesis 2 into the
One, or 101 as it is officially called. Hope I can update the pics someday
when I visit him again. But I had heard it one day after it was delivered
late last year, and boy, what an upgrade ! *

This system had been featured in the 2nd issue of AV Rumors, and this
is the 'father' of the father-son audiophile tandem; the son's
system was featured in the first issue. The owner is now 85 years old,
he tells us he listens to music about 4 hours a day, and patiently tweaks
his system a lot. A few months ago, his Genesis II speaker system was
fitted with Genesis I woofers, midrange, and ribbon tweeter, plus a 4,000
watt, repeat, four thousand watt amplifier supplied by Genesis to drive
the woofer towers. Upon first look at the picture of this woofer amp, my
wife thought it was a digital time bomb set to detonate in 14 seconds...
Well....that's the trouble with wives in the high-end, they don't understand. :)

And to get to the mundane part, the amp driving the front wings
are the Halcro mono-towers. Pre-amp is the Jadis JP-200, source by
ML, and cables by XLO and Magnan. Pre-amp tubes are Telefunkens all
the way, included the EF86 and EL86 in the power supply. Room has a lot
of diffusor panels, room tube type panels, and ceiling diffusors in the
middle of the room. If there is any background music to play now,
I hope it would be the opening seconds of Richard Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathustra".......

Rossifumi,

Good observation. First time I heard the Jadis JPL line stage,
I knew I heard something so special I had not heard before, in areas
of refinement, delicacy, and nuances of the sound quality. Iba yung
flavor niya. As for being the RR, I can't really comment, except
to say that it really sounds good. :)

Wow! drool...

one thing i noticed is that i have something in common with some of the owners of these systems: we have CD's on the floor :D :D

is that a Dynaudio center behind the screen? does he use the Genesis for home theater?

Here are pics of the Gen 101 system:

The woofer towers are now controlled by mono servo amps each
at 4000 watts, and they are not Japanese watts.

There is a an external crossover box for the front wing panels,
which is tri-wired to the panels, and a single wire from the amp
can be fed to this box, located at the back of the winged front panels.

And I learned that this models is a pure design of Arnold Nudell, with
out his former partner Paul McGowan, and is a money no object all
out design. This system uses Korian (sp), a material supposedly
used by NASA engineers for spacecraft, known for it strength and
durability. All I can say, briefly, is, the sound bears no resemblance to
any previous Genesis loudpeakers I have heard...it is a one of a kind
thing, and sounds that way too.

First of all, I'd like to thank the owner of this sytem for accomodating us to listen to this super system and to philip for arranging for this very enlightening session to take place. The main advantage of a system of this caliber is its ability to reasonably replicate the sound of a full orchestra at concert hall levels without compression or distorting during heavily modulated musical passages amn/or crescendos. Most "real world" systems will replicate the sound of a vocalist, jazz trio or chamber orchestra reasonably well but try playing a richard strauss symphony at concert hall levels and most of us know the ear splitting chaos that results. And the way this system reproduced the foundation of music, the lower bass, is unbelievable. I could literally hear the air vibrating under the stage where the Weavers were standing on that night in carnegie hall from that evergreen album "weavers reunion at carnegie hall." But this does not mean that the sytem "bloats' everything to gargantuan images. Carol Kidd was very realistically sized in between those giant mid/treble panels as she magically appeared and performed for us. Of course, how i would have wanted to hear Philip's Brothers 4 Lp of Lennon-Mcartney songs! Baka doon na ako natulog.

Glad to have you present in this session, Jerry. We are virtually batchmates in this audio craze in the 80s and I'm glad to hear your opinion
re this grandiose system. I agree with everthing you just said and we
have witnessed the evolution of this Arnold Nudell design. I met him
once in the HK show and sort of considered him then as the speaker
design guru, I think now I have to call him the Zeus of money no object
all out speaker designs. I remember a few years back when I first listened
to the Infinity IRS 2 of my friend, I went there 3 times in 2 weeks. And now, I had been there as often, and I would STILL want to go back there
again and again. The system will SHOW any characteristics of ANY recorded CD. In one CD there will be no depth, another has no front to
back layering, yet another will ooze with depth and front to back layering,
one CD will sound narrow in soundstage and another will sound wide, these are all the different characteristics of EACH CD that was thrown to the system. To echo HPs words, it is a microscope, the speaker system.
If you agree to bring your TT, I will bring my Brothers Four Beatles,
then both of us will camp overnight there.

Jadis,

The owner of this system and my dad bumped into each other. The owner told my dad that he and I knew each other and shared a common passion. My dad could not believe that I knew and shared a passions with someone older than himself.

The owner despite being almost 40 years older than us reminds me of myself. We both can not leave well enough alone.

mullard, an audiophile never leaves well enough alone. He may, for a couple of months or even years, stay content but even during the quiet season where he's not upgrading, the audiophile is probably tweaking and /or trying this or that gadget hoping to to hear a difference, hopefully for the better.
